Murder Rooms and The King's Speech and Catch-22 and more or less everything else

Thankfully, at least Rivers of London has a nice fandom with lots of meta now. Although I would personally prefer it if there were more enthusiastic gen!Peter&Nightingale fans *sighs* but that's just my preference.

Also, the Back to the Future fandom consists of children and creeps.

Yay, Rivers of London fan!

Just finished reading Whispers Underground. Must admit, I wasn't as enamored of this book as the others. It's still humorous, but skippable. Can't wait to read the next ones, though.

I haven't really delved that much into the fandom. Not sure how I feel about shipping. Is there any actual basis for Peter/Nightingale, or is it a case of "Quick! We need to pair the male lead character with another guy!"

Hi! :) Hm, I'm curious how much you'll like Broken Homes and Foxglove Summer if Whispers Underground didn't feel that great to you. What did you think were the main shortcomings of Whispers in comparison to the previous books?

No, as far as I can see, there isn't any canon basis for the shipping apart from the fact that Peter and Nightingale really care for each other. Okay, there was this one occasion on which Nightingale gave Peter a very expensive present. But I think their dynamics really isn't compatible with romance, and that they would not work as a romantic couple.

The last book built up the whole "Faceless Man" thing and then it wasn't really apparent how Whispers Underground connected to that main plot-line.

It felt like a detour, basically, or a filler episode. I don't know whether I'll change my mind after reading Broken Homes & Foxglove Summer - maybe some of those elements become more relevant later on.

That's basically my thoughts as well about Peter & Nightingale. I totally understand how it might appeal to some people, but the dynamics feel too mentor-y and familial for shipping.

Ah, I see. That's fair - a filler case is more or less what Whispers is. That's the way Aaronovitch writes, I think, not everything he includes in his series is relevant to the main plot.

But the Faceless Man arc is very much up and about! And I believe we're in for an interesting resolution a couple of books later.
