Your small/medium canons

(Anonymous) 2015-09-12 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
List canons you like that you aren't sure anyone else is into here and see if anyone else is.

For any size canon, feel free to list characters and/or ships you like that aren't as mainstream and see if there's anyone who likes those here either.

The Silmarillion fandom is fairly small and tight-knit, particularly for the pairings I frequent. But it is really active, and we all follow each other on Tumblr.

The Legend of the Seeker fandom was always really small. It kind of died about 3 or 4 years after the series ended. But for a while there it was pretty active for such a small fandom.

The Babylon 5 fandom is sem-small, at least in terms of how many people are active.

The Doctor Who fandom is big, but the Doctor/Donna section of the fandom is not.

The point of this thread is more to look for people here on F!S to talk to about your fandoms. So, if you rec something or ask for something, will there be an audience for it? That type of thing.

Are you asking if people are in these 4 fandoms?

Earth 2

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2015-09-12 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Earth 2 is probably the most obscure canon I'm really into that I think only a few people here have seen. It doesn't have a fandom, though it does have some fic. All my efforts to get people into it have been in vain. :(

I vaguely remember seeing this around. What's the draw of it for you? Shippable characters? Worldbuilding?

(It's a short TV series, right?)

I saw it a few years ago, when I randomly picked up the DVD set from the library. Even made a secret about it.

I could really have gotten into that show, there was so much potential.

I started watching Gargoyles a few months ago but I got side tracked by getting into wrestling. I should finish the series.

I love the Hellboy movies, Nuada was one of my teenage crushes and I ship Nuada/Nuala pretty hard along with Hellboy/Liz.

Chronicles of Riddick: I want MOAR VAAKO!

Blade Trinity: I just really like Drake and Hannibal's characters. :( Even if the movie was sort of bad.

Man from UNCLE (new): I'll get into the odler stuff eventually when I run out of new fandom stuff

Leverage: Not big enough for how long the show ran!

Jurassic World: Huge movie, not a huge fandom :(

Guardians of the Galaxy: Chris Pratt, why are your movies so huge, but your fic so little!

I wish there were more Jurassic World fics. And while I loved the Guardian movie, the things I came out shipping were not the main canon ship, so finding fics has been a challenge.

Man from Uncle is awesome (the original tv show), but I haven't read fics yet.

I think we're on the same wavelength. Vaako/Riddick is definitely my Riddick ship. Drake/Hannibal is also my preferred ship (sometimes with Blade) in the Blade series.

I'm very far behind on Leverage, though I adored it. I need to finish the series sometime.

I haven't seen the other ones yet. I love old Man from UNCLE though. If you do run out of fic for the new stuff, there's a lot of old Man from UNCLE fic around.

Murder Rooms and The King's Speech and Catch-22 and more or less everything else

[personal profile] dreemyweird 2015-09-12 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Thankfully, at least Rivers of London has a nice fandom with lots of meta now. Although I would personally prefer it if there were more enthusiastic gen!Peter&Nightingale fans *sighs* but that's just my preference.

Also, the Back to the Future fandom consists of children and creeps.

Yay, Rivers of London fan!

Just finished reading Whispers Underground. Must admit, I wasn't as enamored of this book as the others. It's still humorous, but skippable. Can't wait to read the next ones, though.

I haven't really delved that much into the fandom. Not sure how I feel about shipping. Is there any actual basis for Peter/Nightingale, or is it a case of "Quick! We need to pair the male lead character with another guy!"

Earth: Final Conflict - the show is currently airing in Germany again after almost nine years, and now it's also getting the first German DVD release. I'm back in love, but the fandom is old and mostly dead, and most of the fansites are down. I'm currently on some kind of weird mission to revive the fandom, but not very successful with that.

Also, any Forever fans here?

Re: Your small/medium canons

I watched Earth: Final Conflict when it first aired. I think I was still in it when they changed main actors and I caught some of it later but I think I only really remember the first actor's time.

I loved the weapon on their arms, and I think I started to like Sandoval in the end (didn't like him to begin with). I should try it again.

I'm really tempted to watch Earth: Final Conflict. My dad hated it, so he colored my thoughts on watching it before. But I'm kind of feeling like I should give it a try.

I think I saw a few early episodes of E:FC, and then years later watched the last season. It was pretty much a different show with an entirely different cast.

That's kind of cool, actually, but it's probably weird for a fandom.

Marathon. (Yes, AGAIN.) The more I think about it and its relationship to its contemporaries the more I realize just how influential it was. Not bad for a Mac-only FPS trilogy in the 1990s.

Also, I'm probably not the only person here who still cares about Half-Life, but other than diet_poison I couldn't tell you who they were.

Oooh, I never even considered that option, and Valerie was my fandom bicycle back in the day! (I shipped her with everyone, swear to god. I was so mad the one Sam/Valerie fic I liked never finished.)

Person of Interest, anyone?

I'm just starting to watch S4 now and would love to discuss it. Have they changed writers? I do like the new setup with how they're simultaneously using the Machine, but also being watched by Samaritan. I also like how they've upped the stakes with the cover identities.

Not 100% sure about Iris, though. Admittedly part of this is that I ship Reese and Finch. But I also can't help but feel like she's being added as a chess-piece so she can be put in danger at an opportune moment.

Hopefully she gets given some backstory or something like the other female characters.

Also am I the only one who is super disappointed with the quality of fic on Ao3 at the moment? Maybe I should write my own.
