I just don't get why it absolutely has to be Idris Elba (other than the fact that he's just about the only black actor a lot of the people whining about diversity seem to know) - or a black guy in general. James Bond is a Brit, an ethnically Indian Bond would make much more sense if you want to diversify the role so badly.

gdi now you made me want a Bond parody with Terry Crews

all these super high class spies being all "it can't possibly be that guy" then he busts in in an attack helicopter. it would be so beautiful

Idris Elba is British

I mean, I agree that it's weird that he's always the Black Fantasy Cast, and I agree that the push for YOU MUST CAST DIVERSELY is not something I agree with

but he is British

What I meant is: I almost only see people whining about diversity and then fancast black actors. But black actors aren't the only ethnic group that exists - yet almost all other ethnic groups get ignored. It's like "POC" only ever means "black" in the minds of a lot of people...

Oh, I see your point.

Well, in this case, it's probably because people can think of more black British actors than ethnically Indian British actors.

Specifically, they can think of exactly one more.

Well, Idris Elba is British. He does a fake American accent convincingly, but his actual accent is British.

For me, it's because he can really rock a tux and pull off the combination of sophistication and violent machismo that Bond requires. I really like Daniel Craig for the same reason and when I'm thinking about replacements, it's all about people who can look good at a fancy party, seduce anyone of any gender, and also convince me that they're ruthless enough to smash someone's head in with their bare hands.

An ethnically Indian Bond would make total sense too, though. I just have a hard time thinking of anyone of any ethnicity that would be better than Elba.

Yes! This is it, and Elba is an actor that could deliver 120% of that.

... as long as it's not Hiddlesston or Cumberbatch, I don't care who it is.
