Weird, I'm the opposite: I still absolutely adore the books, but I've lost almost all interest in the fandom and fanfic, I find almost all of it idiotic and not remotely related to anything even close to what I loved about the books.

That's happened to me with a bunch of old fandoms, especially ones I was really crazy about. I think that a lot of stuff doesn't quite hold up when you're not riding the fandom wave of emotion.

Yup, the "fandom wave of emotion" is a great way to put it! I think this kind of has the effect of "filling in the blanks" -- i.e., it causes a reader to adore fics that, without the reader's emotional storm to flesh them out, don't really have a whole lot going for them story-wise apart from some evocative ideas or imagery.

Which isn't at all a bad thing, IMO, but it just doesn't work unless the reader's brain is operating on a certain wavelength.

do you have any recs for HP fics that hold up or which you still like?
I read a few HP fics (I mostly got Harry/Draco recs) but they were rather samey.

It's been a bit too long since I read much HP fic to remember individual recs, but Coffee and Chocolate (http://coffee-and-chocolate.com/) is a fanfic recs site that's really excellent and from which I got a lot of recs that are the type that hold up outside of the fandom-emotion-bubble.

Also, I recently read some HP fics by isquinnabel (http://archiveofourown.org/users/isquinnabel/pseuds/isquinnabel) that were beautiful, especially Deeper Magic.

I'm a fan of any fics that explore (intelligently, not Snarryishly or with Snape-goggles on) the Harry/Snape relationship. For that I recommend The Guiltless (and its sequel, The Poor of God) by kilara25. Both are fantastic, beautifully written and very much IN CHARACTER.

Another one, a squishily adorable, silly, just plain fun Harry/Snape fic is Harry's First Detention with the much longer sequel, Harry's New Home, by kbinnz.

Wonderful! Please let me know what you think, I love both these series and rec them like crazy. I know a bunch of other good ones as well but those are my two favorites.

Warning: Both series (The Guiltless/Poor of God more so than the other series) deal with the Dursleys' abuse of Harry.
