Did no one complain about Eartha Kitt? I heard something once about how they conspicuously stopped writing romantic/sexual tension between Catwoman and Batman when she was cast, so I had assumed there was some racism regarding her. (Not that I think this effects the black James Bond argument, I mean my god I should hope we've come further than they had in the 60s.)

I don't know if there were explicit complaints, but it may have been a feeling that the show might just not get aired south of the Mason-Dixon Line if Batman actually, y'know, touched a black woman with romantic intent.

"I Spy" (the Bill Cosby/Robert Culp show) and "Star Trek" were actually not aired on some southern NBC affiliates because they showed nonwhite characters working as equals with whites.

Not to mention the Uhura/Kirk kiss that only squeaked in because they were possessed by alien lovers.

And the episode wasn't aired in much of the South anyway.

Hell, we only got that kiss because Shatner kept purposely flubbing the scene when they were trying to "censor" the kiss to pacify the South.

Agreed.

Aside from the literal falseness of the statement "nobody complained", let's just be serious for a moment. In 1967, folks complained about this black woman on television.
2010 - Folks complain about Idris Elba playing Heimdall
2012 - Folks complained about a black actress playing a black character Rue in the Hunger Games.
2015 - Folks complained about a black actor playing Johnny Storm in Fantastic 4.
