I judge anyone who judges someone else's food choices. Mind your own business. Eat what you want, but you have no right to comment on someone else choosing different. I especially judge judgy vegetarians/vegans, but this also applies to people judging people for not eating health food.

I couldn't agree more!

AGREED> Insufferable busybodies, most to all of the time.

You have no right to heckle and harass a stranger for what they're eating. I don't care if they're chubby and "wahh your taxes". Butt the fuck out.

The tax thing makes me roll my eyes so hard. Guess what, people, everyone's taxes will inevitably go towards something they may personally not support at some point. Get over it.

I usually see that excuse trotted out for judging people on food stamps or fat people. With people on foodstamps , they'll act like if someone buys anything but necessities they're abusing the system. With fat people it's "my taxes go to your healthcare"...or something.

Honestly I'd rather my taxes go to someone buying nice things for themselves then something like the over militarization of the police or for wars.

Re: AYRT

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
YES. This. Exactly.

I'm so sick to death of the food stamp/abuse the system debate. So, so deeply sick of it. I just want the people who bitch about it to try living on those things for a while and see how well they fare, or how "pleasant" it is to live that way. Same with the healthcare thing. Personal experience with both things in recent years has left me REALLY twitchy and lacking any patience towards people who feel the need to get all judgmental and dismissive/insulting towards poor people or people who struggle to get adequate healthcare.

I have absolutely no problem with my tax dollars going to help people take care of themselves and get better or at least be able to properly treat all the illnesses or diseases they have to deal with. None at all. Not only is it just a nice thing to support in and of itself, but this country will also run so much better as a whole if people are healthy mentally, emotionally, and physically. That is beneficial to society at large in the long run, and I fail to see how that can be a bad thing.

"and I fail to see how that can be a bad thing"

To be honest I think that on some level some of them think they people who are poor should have to deal with it because they assume them being poor is their own fault, or something about going through hardship building character.

Oh, definitely. If they just worked a little harder, if they just avoided getting sick in the first place, if they just did this or did that, then all their problems would be solved! Or something. Because apparently it's just that simple and poor people are too stupid to realize that, I guess.

As for the "hardship builds character" thing, I will say that it is indeed amazing sometimes to see how people can make the best of the rough situations they find themselves in, and I do commend people for all they do to deal with their problems as best they can...

...but of course, that still doesn't justify the bad shit they're going through happening in the first place, and I'm wary of anyone who would imply/state/believe otherwise.

Re: AYRT

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Just because they can make the best of being poor and they can make it change them in a positive way doesn't mean it's something that they should have to go through.

Sort of like just because someone managed to get something good out of their bullying experience and come out better doesn't make bullying a good thing to do.

Precisely.

Re: Dumb stuff you're judgy over

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. As a vegetarian, I get so many random and unwanted anti-vegetarians (seriously, it's like a thing, apparently) who lecture me about how tofu will kill me and I will die if I don't eat meat and PETA is stupid. Ugh, self-righteous meat-eaters are the worst, I don't ever talk about my vegetarianism unless someone asks, so why are you talking about my vegetarianism?

Re: Dumb stuff you're judgy over

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect because they've run into militant vegans, so unfortunately think all vegans are militant. I'm sorry some of my fellow meat eaters have been doing that to you. If I could kick them out of the club, I would. (I'm serious. No one should be harassed for following a certain diet.)

Re: Dumb stuff you're judgy over

(Anonymous) 2015-09-14 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, though not sure why you blame "militant vegans" for this? I mean maybe, or maybe they've simply "encountered" the strawman "militant vegan" on TV, or maybe they just find the idea of not eating meat, especially for ethical reasons, to be appalling and threatening. idk, but either way, it's obnoxious, and neither side should harass one another. (though I must say, in my experience, people will specifically ask me why I'm vegetarian, bringing up the conversation, and when I say, that's when people often flip out on me. Like they think I'm trying to evangelize them into the ways of the vegan simply by answering a question on why I personally don't eat meat.)

Re: Dumb stuff you're judgy over

(Anonymous) 2015-09-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm sorry you have to put up with that crap, too. Especially since, as you say, you're not pushing your views on them.

And I tend to roll my eyes a lot more at anti-PETA people nowadays than I do the pro-PETA people. In part because I've run into more of the former, and also because, yeah, they've got their extremists and their issues. So does every other political/social cause out there. Big whoop. Doesn't necessarily automatically render everything they stand for null and void.

The worst argument I have heard from a vegan went something like "do you think pigs feel less pain than your dog or cat?" Because, of course, people eat pigs based solely on the belief that they don't experience pain and not at all on the fact that they're tasty.

Re: Dumb stuff you're judgy over

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, cats and dogs might be tasty too. I agree with the sense of why do we rank some animals as unacceptable to eat while others we're happy to factory farm.

Dogs are actually eaten in some countries. I have no issue with that. I do have issues with the idea of eating animals who are also treated as pets. That's the issue for me: domesticated animals who are pets should not be eaten. Also stealing other people's dogs to eat is wrong (and yes, I know most people know that, but it happened to us once, though our dog managed to get away as they were taking him down the street).

Re: Dumb stuff you're judgy over

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I do know that dogs (and occasionally cats) are eaten in some areas. But things like protests to that Dog Meat Festival or whatever - I'm concerned about animal cruelty (which is never acceptable) and certainly pet kidnapping. But I do think it's hypocritical to be really shocked and offended that someone eats a dog, but spare no thought to the terrible conditions that factory farmed animals are put through and happily eat their meat.

I completely agree with you.

Re: Dumb stuff you're judgy over

(Anonymous) 2015-09-13 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I can fully agree with this. Killing animals for food is entirely different from killing them for sport. The former I have no problem with-food chain, circle of life, yada, yada. The latter, on the other hand, bothers me very much.

I can understand taking issue with the way factory farms treat animals they do take in, though. Yeah, they're going to die eventually anyway and be made into meals for us humans to eat, but I think it's reasonable to expect the animals are handled and treated well and remain healthy and things like that beforehand.

My sister has Celiac, and people in restaurants. assumes it is just a fad diet for her. It pisses me off so much. especially the one chef who told us something was gluten free and then after she'd taken a few bites told us it wasn't because he didn't believe that Celiac was a real thing.
