i judge people who leave the toilet lid open at their houses

I judge people who close the toilet lid. Like, can't you keep your own toilet clean?

I use the bathroom an awful lot, but I'm not sure how anyone would be looking inside their toilet constantly.

Are you one of those people who has an irrational fear that something is going to climb out of the toilet bowl and grab you?

is hyperbole not a thing that happens on this site or..?

put it a different way: the lid is there for a reason and i don't want my bathroom looking like a public bathroom, it's tacky

........That seems more like it's time to call a plumber than just closing the lid. Toilets shouldn't spray anywhere when they flush.

I hate to break it to you, but they're everywhere regardless of whether you close the toilet lid.

They make their way off your hands more than they do from a toilet flush.

Of course you do. But first you touch the toilet roll, and from there the bacteria can spread to the wall. You also touch the flushing lever, and BAM you have fecal coliforms on the back of your toilet seat (which may brush your back the next time you sit down).

Finally, you touch the handles of the sink, which spread that fecal matter to anything that touches it afterward, including possibly your toothbrush.

Those are far greater sources of bacteria than an open lid. You clearly haven't considered this at length or you'd realize that in the scheme of things, leaving the toilet seat open is probably the least of your problems.

Actually, it does make a difference if you shut the lid before you flush considering how high the germs spray otherwise. There have been studies.

See above comment. Plus, comparative studies have identified that hand transfer is like thousands of times the bacterial mass of flushing.

Well after taking a shit I don't want any bacteria/smelly fumes flying around.

Got nothing to do with how clean it is, i don't like how it looks. Plus - don't want the cats fooling around in there (or falling in, which they would) and if the toilet lid is open? I'm going to drop something in there accidentally. It will just *happen*.

So lid closed, please. And if you go to someone's house and the lid of the toilet is always closed? Then ffs close it when you're done - it's only polite.

My house rule is, "Close the toilet lid, or you'll be the one drying off my nosy, clumsy cat."
