I don't think that word means what you think it does, anon.

And the way the show victim blamed both Kara and Ward after the abuse they both suffered is vile and I won't shut up about it. And Ward's actions aren't excused but his abuse at all but the show chose to ignore said abuse and kidnapping by John Garrett.

And Kara deserved so much better than what she got. She (and Ward) should have been able to heal and overcome their pasts but the show chose to vilify both abuse victims they portrayed.

Ward wasn't kidnapped by Garret. He was in jail (for a crime he DID commit, and as far as we know, it wasn't self defense), and Garret offered him a way out, which he made the decision to take. Garret then left Ward alone in the woods. He taught Ward to fend for himself by fucking off for several months. It's not like he was put through the extensive brainwashing Kara was.

Ward was absolutely abused by his family, but with Garret he had plenty of opportunities to choose for himself, and he chose wrong.

Kara, on the other hand, was totally fucked over. She deserved better.

Ward was a sixteen year old - a minor, which means that he couldn't legally consent to going with Garrett. Thus, 100% kidnapping. And nice victim blaming.

And while he wasn't put through the MCU version of brainwashing, Grant was still brainwashed because that's what John Garrett - his abuser for fifteen years - did to him through said abuse. There's plenty of evidence of the fact that it was both physical (and that went above and beyond simply to be for "the cover". Garrett took pleasure in it and that was definitely not the first time) and emotional abuse.

Now, it doesn't excuse any of his actions but it's very much canon and relevant.

Both Kara and Grant deserved better than this.

I don't feel like the show whitewashes Ward's abuse (Kara's, yes). But it is pretty clear that Garrett abused Ward. The show just doesn't allow that to be used as an excuse for Ward's actions. Ward was abused and brainwashed. He still did horrible things and is a bad person.

The show ignores Garrett's abuse of Ward completely it seems like (and he has yet to even realize that Garrett was abusive).

And it definitely doesn't excuse his actions at all but it's still extremely important.

So basically Ward is allowed to be an abusive, rape-threatening kidnapper Nazi because of his abusive past? He gets to continue the cycle? Ward is an adult. He chose to act abusively toward people, to threaten to rape Skye, to kidnap her repeatedly because he had a fucking crush and chose to continue the manipulation Kara had to deal with when she was at her most vulnerable.

Accept that he is a villain. The "good" version of him NEVER EXISTED. He lit a house on fire with his brother inside it because mommy didn't treat the brother like shit. HE IS AN ABUSER TOO and his past does not excuse that.

I don't think ward is a woobie, but the "threatened to rape her" stuff is bullshit,

Pretty sure that's not what she said, anon. There is, after all a middle here. You don't have to excuse Ward's actions to feel that the emotional abuse inflicted on him was brushed over.
