I didn't like early S1 (to me, boring and laughable), but unfortunately I really don't like Skye and the way she can do no wrong except in the "lesson learned" trite way, in a show that tonally tries to be "gritty" (the show still doesn't know what it is). And the trailer looks like it's all about her. I'll still watch it because (sort of) MCU, but I don't know if it'll be a keeper.

I gave up after season one because of Skye. That and season two was on at the same time as Face Off. Because Skye is such a noxious Mary Sue in that everyone, good and evil, is obsessed with this character. She is the sun around which everyone can do nothing but revolve around. I was promised an ensemble show, dammit! Not the all-Skye Spectacular! Pity, because I've always liked Coulson (even before he put Loki through a wall) and I thought May was cool and Fitz and Simmons were adorable.

But since from what I've heard, it doesn't sound like Skye gets taken down like any pegs in season two, I'm staying out. I only have so much time on my hands and my hatred of her is eclipsed only by my hatred of Mohinder and my hatred of Sasuke.

Yup, I agree. Skye can do no wrong. If she does anything even remotely bad, it's okay because either her intentions were good or she gets the poor orphan pass.

I've never been much into Whedon shows (I know AoS isn't a Joss show though) and from what I understand, each series has to have a super-special woman with a traumatic past who can do no wrong. It really doesn't help that Chloe Bennet looks a lot like Summer Glau.

Yes, but Buffy isn't perfect and earns her specialness because her life kind of sucks and she works hard at what she does. River is so completely traumatized and mentally unstable that she doesn't come across as suish to me. In spite of Skye's somewhat tragic background, it never really compares.

I actually wonder if it would have worked for me more if her inhuman past had been introduced from the beginning. You see from the beginning that Buffy kicks as. With Skye, she goes from being a reporter with no special physical ability to being a capable Agent and an Inhuman and it is all too much.

And plus, Buffy is the only other Whedon character who takes over the show as much (actually not quite as much, IMHO), and she's the star of the show. Shield is billed as an ensemble show, but it isn't really anymore.
