TBH, I never really got into the series at all, not even when it was huge. It has an interesting albeit not very original universe, but the writing is just... well, okay. Not fantastic, not terrible, just solidly mediocre. Some of the fanfic and writers blew me away, though. Sometimes that's how it is, a fandom transcends the canon.
