I love gritty sci-fi so I´m want to remain optimistic.

So much this. Denis Villeneuve being the director gives me great pause TBPH.

Plus, there's the whole issue of whether or not they're going to go with a direct sequel to the first script, or if they're going to make a faithful adaptation to Do Androids Dream.... I would be all over the latter, the former, nnnnnnnope not so much.

What I really care about is how they do at carrying over the look / feel / tone from the original. If they nail that shit, the genre and aesthetic, I almost don't care what else they do.

I do think it would be... it's hard for me to see an interesting way forward for a faithful adaptation of Do Androids Dream. But I might also just be Dicked out.

Have you seen A Scanner Darkly? That was a fairly faithful adaptation of the original work. Much different look, but if the script could stick that close, I would be happy.

I'm meh on the look/feel of the original happening again, TBH. It was original for its time, but Every. Single. Movie. after it took on the same cyberpunk Sprawl-ish look. Now, it's just dated, and wouldn't be the best way forward, IMO.

I think the issue was that none of those copycats actually did it well. I don't think any of them even came close in that regard.

Cautiously excited.

By which I mean I'm so excited I could shit the bed. Blade Runner is my favorite movie.

Part of me wants it, part of me is terrified. The original (all iterations included) is one of my favorite films. I've read the novel, I've got the soundtrack, I've got the making-of book, I've got that damn briefcase box set.

The film is kind of a big deal to me.

Being that Ridley is involved, I'm cautiously optimistic. But still... yeah, it's a maybe.

How involved is "involved" is my question. I honestly would rather see the second movie be more faithful to the original PKD book.

That could be interesting. Though at that point I think we'd want to see 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep' by a much more esoteric, dreamlike director than Blade Runner 2. (sort of like how there's a 'Roadside Picnic' adaptation coming up instead of a remake of Tarkovsky's 'Stalker.')

Which would be something I'd line up to see, taking on the actual themes of the novel instead of the noir-inspired 90 degree angle turn the original Blade Runner was.

I guess we'll see. Odds are strong it'll blow, but god, I just hope it isn't Robocop-remake levels of suckage.

It would need a different sensibility than Villeneuve's, that's for sure. But if Scott is involved, then it probably will be more of a "hardboiled" part deux take. Gahhh, don't mention Robocopy, would you? D-: The odds just aren't good at all, I agree. Which is a terrible thing.

I am stealing 'Robocopy' because for some reason I've never heard that. And it's perfect.

I just hope it's an enjoyable film. It would be nice if they at least try to do something interesting, visual, and new with it instead of acknowledging the audience ownership too much and catering to us old fangroups. I don't want to see just 'REFERENCES: THE MOVIE.'

Steal away, steal away. I thought it was an abomination, hence my snarktastic re-titling. My bar is set so low for Bladerunner 2, I honestly expect it to be just as bad as, if not worse than, Minority Report. And that's saying something.

So much yep. I highly doubt they will go with an ambiguous ending, however, as It's Just Not Done. There's a better chance of seeing a word-for-word adaptation of The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch, IMO. In other words: Not even likely.

couldn't stand the first one. Dark City was way better.
