(Anonymous) 2015-09-18 06:11 am (UTC)(link)Going out of your way to meet people who are smarter than you - or who are very knowledgeable in fields you're a novice in - helps with that a lot. Especially if they're gracious enough to explain things to you and answer your questions, so you can realize it's actually possible to treat people who aren't subject experts like they're real human beings, and that not doing so doesn't make you seem brilliant, it makes you seem like an arrogant little shit.
