I'm not entirely joking when I say that SJWs killed LJ. From, mmm, 2008-2012, there were a lot of communities that were very active, but much like FFR, they were filled with people who were using the tone argument and intent isn't magic (which are important concepts, but people took them and twisted them) as a "win the argument" bludgeon. Introduce Tumblr, and they went thataway, but not before damaging many communities to points that are now non-recoverable. I have lost track of the number of people who said they left LJ, not because of the LJ team's assholery (though I know plenty of those, too), but because of how every community they were part of was becoming a haven for the extremist SJWs.

And this is coming from someone who cares a lot about social issues. It got to the point that I wasn't able to make a post on MY OWN JOURNAL without taking anxiety medication. Not because I had a bunch of SJWs friended (I have a lot who, like me, care about social issues but aren't jerks about it), but because I had gotten so damn used to that environment that I was subconsciously bracing for it even in somewhere that I knew was safe, because I could ban the assholes. Sigh.
