That fucking film.

I know nothing about this film. I'd probably still watch it thanks to that picture. Damn he's fine there.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-22 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
You are a braver soul than I, OP. About a quarter of the way in I just started skipping forward to see if it got any better. As far as I could tell it didn't.

Mads was the only decent thing in this. And really hot. :D
elaminator: (Hannibal: Hannibal (robe))

Was it really that bad? (And from the wording of your secret, confusing?)

I've been wanting to watch some of Mads other stuff, but I'm guessing this shouldn't be on top of the list.

(Though, yea, he's undoubtedly hot.)

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
It was...weird and nonsensical, for the most part. Mads is really very compelling and powerful though, even though he never speaks. I'd say it's worth it to see him.

I'm very glad I watched it actually, because since making this secret I discovered a quasi-Hannigram fic that pairs One-Eye (Mads' character in this movie) with Prince Char (Hugh Dancy's character from Ella Enchanted), and my god, it's the greatest. Especially for people (like me) who have trouble reading actual Hannigram fic because I can never quite believe Will would go full murder husband :D

Urm, if you're curious? This is the fic: http://archiveofourown.org/works/909766

Compelling and powerful about sums up Mads! I can believe he can get that across without words, because even though he spends a lot of time speaking on Hannibal, some of his greatest moments come from his expressions.

I might give it a try!

lmao, this sounds cracky as hell. Is it?! (It might very well be completely serious, you can't always know with fandom, especially this fandom in particular.) Again, if I watch the film I'll def read it!

Thank you for linking it! ♥

(As for Hannigram, I wasn't into Will going fully dark in seasons 1 or 2 either, though I definitely enjoyed the struggle with his demons and found his dynamic with Hannibal intriguing and delicious. He had it in him all along, I think. After S3...yea, I'm finally on board the murder husband train.)

Re: OP

I also thought the pairing would be cracky (I mean, have you seen Ella Enchanted? It's about as far away from Valhalla Rising as it can get!) but the fic is actually very well written and plotty, with some great insights into the mysterious One-Eye. And pairing someone so damaged with someone intrinsically good-hearted is like, insta-kink for me :D

(Oh, I super enjoyed Will's struggle with his dark, Hannibal-y side, but when I read Hannigram I can't help but remember moments like: "You delight; I tolerate." and my suspension of disbelief goes out the window. But every now and then, a fic wins me over, I must admit :)

I believe you! I haven't been reading Hannibal fic for long and there's still plenty of it that isn't for me (God, so many A/B/O AUs, teacher AUs, etc), but I've also found some great fic; there is some serious talent in this fandom. I look forward to it!

(Well...his rejection did serve a purpose though! He wanted their little game to stop, and rejecting Hannibal was the only way it would. Also, er...considering what Will did to Randall and also Chiyoh's prisoner, I personally think Will is lying to himself about the 'tolerate' thing, but I definitely don't think he's evil, just...dark. Very dark, and denying the hell out of it. I swear I'm not trying to convince you, I just love discussing this show.)

Re: spoilers

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, it wouldn't take much to convince me, I'm halfway there already :) And I love talking about this show too, don't worry.

Yes, I think I'm just used to Will straddling the line (and occasionally crossing over one way or the other) that I think to me it's become part of his character? If that makes sense. And I know how detrimental Hannibal's influence is on him, and how tempted he is by that part of himself, but I don't think he could kill a true innocent. Serial killers, and scumbags like Mason Verger, yes, but not someone who'd just been rude to Hannibal. But then again, maybe he would gradually lose his compassion for them the more he does it? Lol, see, it makes me very confused :D

It's not *bad*, but it's one of those arthouse-y films with lots of long, lingering shots of scenery and shots where the camera just sits there and focuses on something forever when nothing happens. I thought it was going to be like I VIKING I KILL ROARRRR and it was like, look at these lovely extended shots of Mads in a boat going down a beautiful river!
elaminator: (Hannibal: Bedelia)

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-09-23 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, I admit, what I expected from the picture of the secret was more "Vikings, ROAR" than arthouse film. That's a nice thing to know, going in!

If I can find it, I will give it a try! If nothing else, it sounds pretty. (And I do so love Mads face. Dem cheekbones.)

>_<

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you think about it, a Viking's existence probably was mostly going up and down rivers and estuaries, in long trips well-represented by quiet art film cinematography.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
I must admit I find him pretty ugly, but he's a good actor. I haven't watched any of "Hannibal", but I've watched several of his earlier movies (in Danish, since I'm a Dane).

I'd recommend these movies with him:

Pusher I & II
Bleeder
Adam's Apples
Prague
Flickering Lights

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-09-23 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, well...different strokes! He's certainly a unique looking guy, but I've always took that as a good thing. He's very striking and severe. Kind of like Cumberbatch, he isn't going to be for everyone.

But those cheekbones...

Anyway, thank you for the list! I am going to bookmark it and try to get through some of these. (Sooner or later, though hopefully sooner.) I'm really looking forward to it; you're right, he IS very talented and it'll be nice to see him play someone a bit less...well, manipulative and terrible. (Amazing too, but still. Though he could very well be manipulative and terrible in half of these films as well, but even so I imagine I would still enjoy them, lol. He plays it well.)

If you have any interest at all in Hannibal, I'd recommend it! (Though, of course, if you can't handle gore then steer clear.) It is a beautiful show, in every way.

Question! Why is the world allowed to hate Brumptymint Corgibroth for being hideous, while this ugly fucker gets off scot-free?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
Only one of them is an arrogant asshole?

It's one of those visual poem kind of things that can probably be understood in more than one way, but yeah, his attractiveness is one of those ways, lol. And I definitely think of One-Eye as a past life of Hannibal's, so it's fun on that level, too.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-23 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched that whole film. The whole thing. I have no idea why.

I'm interested in that time period, but that was just such a weird movie. It just tapered off into nothingness.

Pretty scenery almost made it worth it, until the end when it was just mud and a lake. I don't have the hots for Mikkelson so that part left me unmoved, although he acted well, as did the boy. Everyone acted well. Lots of moody closeups.
