WTF? Why is it incumbent upon us to like every fucking female character in existence?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-28 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably guilt after decades of fandom oftentimes being hostile to female characters in some situations?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-28 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Every day, in every way, I'm happy I'm not a current under/graduate.

*nods* Yup.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Uh, no one said that...?
lol calm down dude.
There are still plenty of people on fandoms who hate female characters for tiny and minor things, I assure you.

Never watched it, what's godawful about her? Is she evil, lame, cardboard, or just badly written/acted?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
she was written replace Maid Marian but was dumb

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of like Kermie's new Pig on The Muppets?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
All of the above. She was just a terrible mess from her awful hair to her character's pointlessness to her idiotic behaviour to the attempt to replace Maid Marian to the fact she was at the centre of TWO love triangles to Joanne Froggat's uncharacteristic bad acting.

I don't use the term Mary Sue lightly, but she definitely ticked all the boxes (specifically a Jerk Sue since she behaved utterly stupidly and rudely ALL the time, but everyone acted like she was God's gift to them all).

nothing wrong with disliking her - but why compare on the the female characters to her, and not all of them?

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
OP

I'm not quite sure what you mean...? My mentality is basically "no female character is ever as bad as Kate." For example, when I started watching Arrow I knew that Laurel Lance was not a popular character, so I was somewhat expecting not to like her.

Then when I started watching I remember thinking: "she's not so bad - clearly these people have never seen Kate!" Now Laurel is one of my favourites.

The same things has happened with plenty of other female characters - while everyone else is busy hating on them, I'm left thinking "hey, I survived KATE."

idk why Kate gets singled out. there was a lot of bad writing on that show.

Honestly none of the characters on that show were particularly well-written or interesting, I kind of hated them all and only stuck about for Richard Armitage clad in black leather.

Yuuuup.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know this fandom, but just the other day I was saying to one of my friends that this is exactly how I feel about a character in one of our fandoms. They even look alike.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
I bailed on the series after they killed off adorable kickass Marian, and nothing I heard about series three made me feel like changing my mind. This character in particular sounded like a real waste of the actress.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
There is no series three is the most common comment I've heard about it. There is a reason. Unless you are particularly into Guy of Guisborne, I would skip it.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yep. We used to watch it as a family. Then came the finale. We just sort of all stared at the screen in shock, and went: "What the hell? You can't kill off Maid Marian!"

The hatred for the finale really brought us together as a family.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't call her the worst female character ever but she WAS annoying.

But the whole last series was pretty much a flop, it was never the best written show but it was like they killed all the fun by then.

I get you, OP

You are cool w/ me

OP

Cheers!

Haha, anachronistic eyebrows! Good job, BBC! (Or is it taking the piss deliberately? I haven't seen the show, so I wouldn't know.)

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of the anachronisms are deliberate. Some are plain we don't care. It was a frustrating show.

(Anonymous) 2015-09-29 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Idk who this is but what the hell is wrong with her eyebrows???
