The thread above where someone used a phrase that some anon didn't like, and they felt the need to tell the person that. It really comes across to me like they're saying "hey I don't like that phrase you just used". And...honestly, if it's not actually offensive or hurting anyone, then it comes across as incredibly self centered.

"Hey random stranger, I don't like that word phrase you just said." Like what else would be the purpose of telling them that? What are they supposed to say to that? "Oh I'm sorry I won't say it again because it bothers you"

It's one thing to mention it in a rants/pet peeves thread, but replying to anyone who uses it in a comment is obnoxious. You can have phrases you don't care for or find annoying, but nobody owes it to you to stop doing it if it isn't hurting anyone.

"Step on a Lego" is synonymous with Tumblr-level whiny bunself "friendly reminder!! uwu!!" obnoxiousness and should be stopped by any means necessary

When the alternative is "die in a fire", I think we generally agree on the Lego version here.

I mean, "die in a fire" sucks too, but that doesn't make the Lego thing any less annoying

It makes them sound like infants and I immediately stop taking anything they say seriously because of it

What would be a good replacement phrase, in your opinion?

It doesn't really matter because the replacement phrase would eventually annoy someone and we'd get the same "DON'T YOU THAT PHRASE ABLOOBLOOBLOOBLOO" that we're getting now, haha

that's why we need to keep brainstorming new ones tho

Tbh I've never understood why arguments have to come down to "choice phrases" in the first place, like gather your thoughts and make a point, and if you feel like exiting just say so instead of trying to sound like you got the last word

Some people use it in a joking way, and every single person who uses it isn't associated with any of that.

The phrase itself is not hurting anyone. "Needs to be stopped by any means necessary" Or how about you get over your whiny self and learn to be an adult and deal with people using terms you may not like without being a big entitled diva about it.

Options include "Gotta get this off my chest, not looking for feedback or debate, but if you wanna commiserate that's cool", or if you don't feel like prefacing a rant then there's always just not replying to a disagreement

I kinda think that should go unsaid in a rant thread.

Who wants to rant about something they're annoyed or fed up with only to have to argue about it with someone?

Geez, I feel so behind with the times.

What if you really do want them to step on a lego though? Whenever I use that phrase, I really want the person it's directed to feel minor, but intense agony for a few moments. I don't care enough to wish them dead, but I do wish them to feel pain and misery.
