While I agree that Fallout needs more color (I think FO4 will remedy this) and can be boring to look at, if anything was going to be a deterrent from me playing the game it wouldn't be the color scheme, it would be the inventory system. (And yes, I know there are mods on computer.)

Why, you may ask? Because I am one of those people that will spend five minutes going through all my junk, trying to find something to drop or repair so I can grab one more item. I get very hoardy about Bethesda games and it makes the game feel very repetitive at times, but I can't stop.

Sometimes if I see what I consider 'good loot' I'll drop a map marker and fast travel 'home', store my gear and weapons and travel back to pick it up. (Even if I already have four of said item.)

*sigh* I'll never run out of weapons and armor, but it's a sad existence.

I mean, there's also the never-ending quests that I feel compelled to complete, but even if I was in the mood to skip one I'd undoubtedly go, "...You know, there might be something useful around. I should check it out."

FU Fallout.

Heh...I'm the same way. (When I don't cheat and boost my carry weight to superhuman levels.)

I would so do that, were it an option on console, lol.

And this is why I love the Weightless mod for Skyrim.

People can say it's a form of cheating all they want; I don't care, man. I get to carry all the things.

If that mod were available to me, believe me, I would use it. I would use it hardcore.

IA, if this is 'cheating' then I am open to cheating. Constantly going back for items is not enjoyable, and I don't know why you would stop yourself from using something that would make your game-play experience more fun and less tedious.

I do that too. It's worse in Classic Fallout because it's not organized by type. The only thing preventing it from being completely unmanageable is that there are fewer items to pick up overall (aside from weapons and ammo, which take up the bulk of the weight, it's mostly one-time use stuff, bit like an adventure game.)

To make matters even worse, there is no take-all button in Fallout 1 and you can only take 999 of a thing at a time, which is aggravating when you're dealing with large sums of cash.

I know this was not your intention, but this has all but convinced me to never play classic Fallout. (Not that I was likely to in the first place tbh, but...that sounds like torture.)

Yeah the only thing that makes it tolerable is there's a LOT less items to loot and a lot fewer enemies to kill (and they don't respawn.)

Game is basically Ultima with guns. Unless that sounds fun to you, you're better off watching an LP.

FO2 fixes some of FO1's UI problems, as well as greatly expands what you can do with NPCs.
