Food Thread

Because I have a question about some food.

Avocado and tuna

(Anonymous) 2015-10-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I love tuna and I love avocados. Has anyone here ever replaced mayo for avocado in tuna. if so, how did it taste? Or do you think it would taste good?

Tuna + mayo = tuna salad? It's delicious.

I love tuna and mayo. But I was wondering if anyone had eaten tuna and avocado sandwiches instead.

nayrt

Why don't you just try it out? That's the only way you'll know if you think it's any good.

Too obvious and efficient. Better keep asking random strangers on the internet and have them guess OP's subjective tastes based on no information whatsoever!

Have you seen the price of avocados? At least, in most places I've lived.

I've had tuna sandwiches where it has firm avocado slices in place of tomato and those can be good. If you're looking at a mayo replacement, not so much. You end up with an underflavored mush because none of the tang or texture that mayo adds is present. The tuna takes over anything the avoc can do.

Agreed. I tried it as a mayo replacement. Never again. Never. It was just too bland as it was. I mean. Maybe if it had guac mix in with it to add a little tang and spice but...not plain avocado.

Mayo and tuna is a delicious combination.

sushi?

I once had a "special" roll with tuna, avocado, special sauce and lettuce, if that counts. It was decent.

Haven't done it, but it wouldn't quite work. I'm echoing the sentiments of the anons above me, it's not good as a mayo replacement as a avocado on its own is rather bland and also wouldn't have the same consistency. But! Guacamole with lime and salt, pepper, and other spices like cumin might work.

Seconding this. In guacamole form, it might actually punch up the flavor a lot. Then again, guacamole is the only way I like avocados.

it might taste fine? i don't know if it would taste duller in a sandwich, but i like to eat tuna with onion, tomato and avocado, like a salad. it tastes awesome

I have a craving for some chocolate cake. I don't even really like chocolate cake all that much.

Chocolate cake is never something I particularly want but when it comes to me anyway I usually end up being pleasantly surprised.
