F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

F!S Anon Meme (the ??th!)

Secrets, rants, opinions, anything you want to say about your fandom or a fandom or fandom in general, do it here! Anonymously, of course. Get it all off your chest.

Some ground rules:
1. Going anon is encouraged but not absolutely required.
2. No autoplaying/autolooping embeds, or embeds that cover/stretch the screen.
3. No dropping personal info or IRL contact info, etc.

That's about it, though!

I'll be linking some general/general-fandom threads I see so people don't repost new threads with the same stuff. If you want me to link your thread up here, drop a link in the first comment!

General:
Halloween costumes

Fandom-general:
Porn comics
F/F recs
Guilty pleasures

Fandom-specific:

What has been your best time in fandom?

What fandom has left you with the fondest memories? Do you wish you could go back to that?

Discovering fanfiction! I had been writing it all on my own and was astonished (and somewhat relieved) that it was a huge thing many other people did too.

Also finding a place where the standard pronoun was feminine in discussion and sharing! What a feeling of belonging. It almost makes me want to cry with joy still.

Re: second part:

Stumbling across a forum for a cartoon aimed at boys, where a majority of members were women ( or female identifying), was amazing. I miss that place and I sometimes wonder where the others are now and what they're doing.

Lord of the Rings! I know Tolkien fandom is still active but I do miss the excitement between LOTR films. Spent many an hour on message boards reading people's thoughts and speculations.

Would I go back? Probably.

Oh god, yes. I miss looking forward to them, too.

Marvel fandom pre-MCU. It was smaller, more insular, and harder to find fic then, but once you found and got into the little pockets of like-minded people it was wonderful. Now the fandom is huge and chaotic and scary and I find it really overwhelming.

Hetalia! Until the fandom became a shit show that is.

Still it was cool for a while, and I loved it when you had well researched history based fanfic, and not just "gay countries lol". Honestly there was a period where I thought it was the most quality fandom I had been in with regards to fanworks (good fics, great art, cool fsts/fanmixes, decent discussion)

If the fandom went back to being what it was I would be back in a heartbeat.

Right now ^_^

Re: What has been your best time in fandom? House M.D.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-18 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I remember most of my fandoms fondly, but I think House M.D. might be my favorite. It was the first time I interacted with fandom primarily through LJ, and that made the experience feel more social and friendly.

I loved that every pairing had its own community, even, like, House/Tritter. I remember someone made a fanvid about the House fandom, set to a Weird Al song, and that vid was amazing and captured the humor and creativity and sheer output of the fandom so well. I wish I could find it again.

Chrono Trigger and Suikoden (any). Don't know if I'd go back to *exactly* what I'd experienced before, but I wouldn't mind participating in something fandom related. Though to be honest, I tend not to be as motivated these days unless my friends are involved... which is weird. I've done so much on my own without a problem, but the best memories are the ones I shared with other awesome fans.

FMA when the manga was still ongoing, before Brotherhood was made. There where people who loved the anime, or the manga, or both; when only one, they politely ignored each other but more often than not they still found common ground to gush together. I wrote my best and most beloved fics back then.
Holy shit has it really been ten years already?
Yes, I very much would want to go back to that. And start over again my writing with slightly different favourites characters and pairings!

Harry Potter was my biggest fandom for a long time. And I think if I have leave the Tolkien fandom or my love dies down (which I can't see at the moment, but I never thought I'd fall out of love with Potter), it will have my fondest memories just because I've made so many friends.

Until I joined the active Tolkien Tumblr fandom I did miss the Potter fandom just because it was my most active and I didn't really have that strong a connection to any other fandom. But now I do.

I was in fandom when it was still mailing lists and zines over AOL; the big one for me at the time was Babylon 5, although I also got hard into Homicide: Life on the Street.

That had a really weird, intense online fandom, with a lot of small drama behind the scenes. I miss that, the small scenes that still had a lot of hubs to find new people or really discuss what's going on.

I'm into MCU now and it's kind of a golden age... but it's also really hard to find a group of people to just talk with. I miss LJ and whatnot for that.

Legend of the Seeker! It was so much fun.

when I was first introduced to fandom with Star Wars and Naruto

CAPSLOCK BATMAN

When Star Trek XI came out

I was having fun with AoT

The bigger and crazier the fandom the more fun I have in it. Especially when in veers off into absurd humor.

Probably X-Files. That whole fandom is just so classic, and also...idk, classy? There was a level of serious to it that was fairly unique to that fandom. Not that it wasn't also extremely fun, but there was a sort of intellectual edge to it where people genuinely valued that The X-Files was a story about Asking The Big Questions, and a lot of us wanted our fanfic to continue asking those questions. We wanted to read/write hot MSR smut, of course, but we also wanted Mulder and Scully to fight doggedly for the public's right to know important truths, and we wanted them to explore the undiscovered potentialities of the universe and of science.

I do kind of wish I could go back to it. I just loved Scully and Mulder so much, and for so long.

LOST fandom.
