I...don't think I've ever heard people purposely do that. Are you sure they're doing it voluntarily? Everyone's sneeze is different and some people are just really loud.

It might be an ingrained habit for some people, but it's one I wish they'd break. It's not like involuntary like closing your eyes when you sneeze: something it really is impossible not to do.

It does seem it's a learned behavior, as deaf people have inaudible/barely audible sneezes...

But I have a loud achoo like sneeze, and I'm not sure how to change that.
