Yes Nina's fate was sad, but not that much more horribly horribler than other character's and 9gag's sheer obesession with TEH TRAGIC HORRIBLE TRAGEDY THAT WAS HERS makes me hate her out of over exposure. Now whenever I rewatch the series I can't stand her anymore and just can't wait for her to just croak.

I mostly see that part used for jokes nowadays. It's popular to meme-fy in fandoms that canonically have characters that merge with each other... etc. Of course there are always people going "How dare you, you horrible person" but those are pretty much playing along as well.

+1. I sympathize with not liking the running fandom gag of the overreaction to her, but I don't think it's something that can/should be taken "seriously."
