I understand that you are okay with less in person human interaction than I am, but if I can have it what's wrong with keeping it? Once my parents die I will have to live alone but why are you so determined that I should do it beforehand? You're so vested in insisting there are replacements for it when a replacement isn't necessary.

I do live alone a lot, for the record. My parents travel often for weeks at a time on vacations and business. We use things called phones and internet and a million other ways to have contact during those times, since we are not idiots that don't know these exist. I am happier when they are home with me.

have to live alone or find a roommate, though finding one that would be okay with living together indefinitely would be unlikely. My plan in that eventuality would be to move into a larger apartment and sublet so that people are around, but that necessitates the hassle of finding and vetting tenants who would move in and out over time.*

Got your panties in a bunch? I'm not saying move out this instance, in fact I haven't explicitly said move out at all. I'm just giving one viewpoint on it and what you said is the original post was that you wanted someone to come home to and I said a pet is one way to have that. There is also a thing called visiting fyi or going out together.

If I opened up the discussion, you were the one that started being condescending. Please do not say you sincerely thought I didn't know what that thing called a phone is, or that I needed someone else to suggest that calling people was an option. Really?

I have a hard time believing this is a real attempt at discussion on your part at all, so I'm going to stop replying. Thanks.

I by no means meant to be condescending, but you acted as if moving out meant no human contact ever again, so I merely offered suggestions for that.

If you are insulted, I'm sorry that you have such thin skin.

NA You're a condescending jerk, anon, and your entire argument here has been weirdly irrational. I suspect you may have some personal issues of your own with this, as you seem to resent OP or have some kind of weird prejudicial opinions about OP's living arrangement.
