I really loved his acting and TBH in the films he's my favorite of the big three

I really do think his comic acting in the movies is excellent and underrated

I don't know if you've read the books, but a lot of the complaints stem from the fact that Ron of the movies is definitely flanderdized. (Especially after the first movie.) He's a lot more collected and intelligent in the books, and in the third book has a wonderful line that's given to Hermione in the third movie. (Fans around the world went into CAPSLOCKRAGE at that.)

I read the books, I just consider them totally separate. Mostly because I think the movies generally aren't very good at all. So I'm comfortable with him being entertaining and funny

Also, I am... not very high on the acting talents of Watson and Radcliffe in the movies either, so when I say I think Grint is the best actor of the three, that's also where I'm coming from.

AYRT - Fair enough. And yeah, after PoA I saw them as separate too, but it still bugged me.

I haven't watched the films much because I never cared so much about them, so I don't remember and now I'm curious: what was the line they gave to Hermione? I vaguely remember hearing complaints about this happening but I still don't know what it was.

this is amazing

I don't know that it's fair to blame Rupert Grint, though. He had a script and read it. He also had to do what the director said. Maybe a lot of his portrayal was truly his own, but I've never heard of that being the case?

The problem is that movie!Ron and book!Ron are two different people. Movie!Ron is the goofy one of the group. Book!Ron is the strategist who kicks ass at wizard's chess. He had a goofy side, but a lot of it is to alleviate tension, and he's not stupid.

Although I have to say, I did like him in the DH movie, which is ironic because the first part, at least, could have much more reasonably "klove'd" him.

I've always found the idea of Ron the strategist questionable. Pretty much the only example of this is him playing chess. He doesn't really display that skill outside of the game.

Same. I'm definitely not trying to claim Ron doesn't contribute anything, but I don't think what he contributed was strategy. I'm trying to remember if he actually masterminded any of the major plays for the trio.

I think he is one of the best comic actors of the 2000s and it is a crying shame he has quit acting. As far as the character goes, he works better as comic relief rather than trying to be serious. Harry and Hermione need a comic foil.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-18 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Whaaa? He's quit acting? Say it isn't so! *runs to google to check*

(Anonymous) 2015-10-19 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think he prefers driving his ice cream van and giving away treats

I don't think it's his fault. It's the fault of the script. He's just acting out the (terrible) material given. When he talks about Ron in interviews and the like, he does seem to 'get' him, unlike Kloves.

Dear anon,

The way Kloves kept giving all his lines to Emma Watson and making Ron look like a gormless idiot was a far huger factor, IMO.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-18 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with the commenters above that is more a script issue. I would like to ad that the few times that when he was called on to be serious he was pretty good. Especially that look he gave Harry when he they argued in the goblet of fire was pretty chilling.

I thought he was the best of three for what the script writers, and directors gave him to work with. Ron's character really got the short end of the stick in the films.

You could say the same for all of them, namely Emma Watson

(Anonymous) 2015-10-19 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
lol

I love how you purposely went and found screenshots of the most unflattering expressions. If I didn't know better, I'd swear you played the movie and paused at "ugly."

(Anonymous) 2015-10-19 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
he was a horrible actor and fucking ugly. there's a reason he's the least successful of the main three.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-19 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
How so?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-27 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
... but he's the only one in the main trio who can act shit. @_@ Emma was the worst, then Daniel... Rupert was actually good, imho.
