(Anonymous) 2015-10-27 02:01 am (UTC)(link)You compare major 2D animation releases and there's everything from Sleeping Beauty's tapestry backgrounds to Prince of Egypt with it's hieroglyph-derived character design to Spirited Away's hyper detailed painted backgrounds. Most 3D seems to end up being generic cartoon realism with minimal stylization. Every release shouldn't look just like an updated Shrek movie, ffs!
It's like they fell into the same trap as most major videogame studios did, when literally every major AAA game was bloom-n-brown a few years back because 'realism'. Forget the characters, I want to see better art design in EVERYTHING. 3D as a medium gives SO MANY more options than 2D, and Disney isn't taking advantage of it.
