Okay. I am not getting something here.

The ship you hate is Fitzsimmons. Yet the second half makes it sound like Fitzsimmons shippers are constantly being hated on by other shippers?

Also, I think A LOT of pairing hate comes from people shipping an opposing pairing.

It confused me too, at first.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-27 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
But I think the little gray text is supposed to be an example of one of the "disgusting shippers", not the secret poster's words. A colon would have helped.

Same.

I kind of have to agree with you. I love Fitz...when he's not around Simmons. Because when he is, all he can do is look at her with sad puppy 'why won't you have sex with me' eyes, and it's more than I can take. I love the interactions between Simmons and Bobbi. I love Fitzmack. But Fitzsimmons creeps me out.

FFS, unrequited feelings aren't just about sex, usually.

FitzSimmons sucks, but so does Skimmons. Any ship involving Skye is automatically terrible, as is any ship involving Ward. Because they are both terrible, terrible characters.

People sometimes do hook up after stressful situations. It usually does not last long but it does happen.

Yeah,I actually came here to say that.

I like the characters individually, but not as a couple. I agree with you.

If it was the "in love with each other, but neither one knows it until. . . " trope, I'd ship them. But the "I love you, that means you have to love me back because I am a male with puppy eyes" trope is icky.

Aw, they both have huge foreheads....

(Anonymous) 2015-10-27 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Except fitz doesn't pressure her to go out with him. He tells her at the bottom of the ocean and after she says no he never brings it up to her again. Simmons is the one who says, before he saves her from the alien world that maybe there is something to talk about. And then he asks her out to dinner.
Also after he saves her, he only takes her to dinner when Bobbi suggests it, as something for Simmons to look forward to. Like hate the ship all you want, but Fitz being in love with Simmons doesn't automatically make him a Nice Guy. Like I personally prefer FitzMack and Skimmons but I don't hate FitzSimmons.
Also I have seen Skimmons shippers saying that Simmons shouldn't date him b cause of his brain damage, and I've seen people insult the Elizabeth henstridge because she said in an interview that she ships FitzSimmons

Yeah, I agree. Fitz was perhaps woobified for a bit there, but I never got Nice Guy from him.

This. I don't ship it. I really prefer them as friends, but Fitz never pushed. And the first few times it gets hinted at in S1 that he might be interested in Simmons, was after she and Trip started making eyes at each other and Ward was being manipulative. In S1 it felt like it was more Fitz going I don't want to lose my bestie.

And in tonight's episode, it's pretty clear that she was thinking about him specifically, in what seemed like a romantic way, when she was on that distant planet.

F/S are complicated, but it's not all one-way.

Are they getting shippy? I like them both as friends and potentially as more, though if it's written the way you said that will be disappointing, because it IS a rather tired trope. :(

/needs to catch up with this

(Anonymous) 2015-10-28 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
The anon above you described it accurately, I think. People have the right to their character interpretations but I don't think his feelings are handled badly, I never got the sense that she was a "reward" for Fitz. (And there's more I could say, but it would be spoilers for the current season.)

I still haven't caught up with SHIELD, at this rate probably won't, but it's weird...I started off thinking I was probably going to ship Fitz and Simmons because I love best friend ships. I don't know when it happened, but at some point I decided that was the last thing I wanted from them. I know it was never going to happen but I would've rather the show went the Fitz/Mack route, and maybe hooked Simmons up with someone new.

I don't know why I feel this way because it doesn't sound like Fitz was at all pushy; he didn't do anything wrong, but a part of me can't help but think, "Of COURSE she needs to want him back." (Part of it could be that I thought it would be interesting if she didn't return his feelings, they both moved on romantically but got back to the same level of closeness; you don't see that often in media.)

And I love Fitz too! He's adorable! One of my favorite characters! I'd date him! So idk, I'm very confused by my own feelings. (And I certainly don't 'always' need friends to remain friends; if Sleepy Hollow got three more seasons and Abbie and Crane hooked up at some point, I would be super pleased, as long as the show took its time and did a good job with it. Fitz/Simmons just feels different for me somehow.)

(Anonymous) 2015-10-28 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
It bothers me how the show is written regarding romance. Like, we have two guys in love with girls who don't love them, but Fitz is a good guy and sweet so he's rewarded with the girl he loves instead of having to move on. Meanwhile, Ward is evil, so in his case his girl never falls for him, tries to kill him and he has to move on.

It kinda feels like Fitz was entitled to get the girl by virtue of being a good person and Simmons was a prize. It makes it even worse that this story is told from his point of view and not hers.

Fitzsimmons is one of my NOtps, but if the show was going to force it, I wish it had put the focus on Simmons' feelings and how they changed from friendship to love instead of poor Fitz and how sad he is because Simmons left him.

It's interesting that this secret was posted today, considering tonight's episode. :)

I feel the same, OP. Or, well, it's not quite RUINING the show for me but I'm doing my damnedest to ignore it. I think the writing for these two has been astonishingly terrible and I still really don't buy Jemma's alleged ~feelings~ for Fitz.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-28 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's not ruining the show for me but it's certainly making me dread FitzSimmon's scenes which I used to look forward to. I do think you're unfairly characterizing some of what's happened though (For example, Simmons returned Fitz's feelings before she was taken/saved).

I'm hopping that tonight's episode throws a wrench in things but I've read that Fitzsimmons is based on the showerunner's real life relationship so I've sort of resigned myself the the fact that they'll probably be end game.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-28 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Fitz got cucked so hard this episode. It was hilarious.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-28 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't entirely agree with that interpretation but I'm with you on not shipping it.

I love both characters and I adored their friendship but I wish it had remained a friendship. And I honestly don't ship either of them with anyone else. I'm intrigued by Fitz/Mack and Simmons/Bobbi but not enough to say I ship either pairing. So there's nothing preventing me from shipping it apart from just not liking the characters together romantically.

It's not ruining the show for me but it's one more aspect about the show that I don't care for. Added to the number of other things about the show I don't care for right now, it has made me very un-enthused about the new season. I still think the show was at it's best in the back half of season 1.
