on the one hand, huzzah, you've rejected the fallacy of the american dream (whether you're american or not). good for you. I mean far fewer people are accepting the lifetime career-marriage-two kids-house with white picket fence stereotype anyway but always good to just reject it and do what you want.

on the other, escaping into media because you consider the future bleak and pointless is a whole other problem. you're going to run out of things to watch and read, as your tastes further develop and you age, and when you do, what will you have to make life worth living?

you're going to run out of things to watch and read, as your tastes further develop and you age,

...I don't think that's a thing that happens to most people? Most people I know that are elderly are still reading and enjoying TV. There are so many books out there that we could never read every book we want to, we'd die first.

"...you're going to run out of things to watch and read as your tastes further develop and you age..."

LOL, no. How old are you? I imagine your tastes have changed since you were five years old. Have you run out of things to watch/read because of it? I doubt it. Older people watch TV and read books too, you know.

Nayrt

Yes, but (seemingly most) older people don't devote the entirety of their energy to TV and books.

The healthy ones don't, no. (I've known quite a few older people who don't do anything BUT watch TV.) But you could say the same thing about young(er) people with healthy, balanced social lives. Unless OP is so independently wealthy they don't need to work for a living, odds are there's a limit to how fast they can consume media. Then you have to factor in the reality that new media is being created all the time, plus the backlog of older media.

Bottom line is, they're not going to "run out of things to watch and read" as they get older.

Er, just how are we supposed to reject the "fallacy" of having to earn a living? OP is free to marry or not marry, have kids or not have kids, whatever they choose. But they're not likely to be able to opt out of having a job. Also, "run out of things to watch and read"? Huh? Are people going to stop publishing books and making movies and TV shows then? Are all the books and media we already have going to disappear? This whole comment sounds like you have no idea what you're talking about.
