[Bones/Sleepy Hollow]

(Anonymous) 2015-10-30 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
... I haven't watched either in a while. OMFG. How is this... is this real? HOW?

(Anonymous) 2015-10-30 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Same network, and I'm guessing it's an attempt to boost ratings for both shows.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-30 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
From what I heard about the ratings for both shows last night, it worked.

And actually, the crossover worked a lot better than people predicted it would, at least, I thought so. The complaints about the real world bumping up against the fantasy/supernatural setup were handled well.

Mind, last night was the first time I'd ever seen an episode of "Bones", too, so I'll defer to "Bones" viewers as to how well that part of things was handled, but from my general understanding of that series and its premise, I think they worked it out.

There were two episodes.

I agree. This fits in with all the reasons I've hated Bones the last few seasons. I loved that in the early seasons neither her nor Booth were objectively right. His religion and her atheism and his emotional nature and her rational nature were both equally valid and important.

Then somewhere along the way the show decided that Booth was right. We started seeing ghosts and things. Brennan started learning lessons about being more like Booth (and Angela) while Booth never had to learn lessons about being more like Brennan. It got worse when they had a kid. And now they are crossing Bones with a show that has the supernatural in it. Ugh.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, I agree with most of this. Personally, though, I feel like the show has always leaned in a pro-Booth direction though; remember that preachy episode about monogamy, where Brennan was dating two guys at once? And the thing with pony play, that was all Booth judging all over the place? Just...ugh. After 15 seasons, I hate Booth so much.

Oh, yes, the pony play episode where only "making love" as in straight missionary was good sex (whereas in my mind, any sex between two people who love each other is making love, and any sex where everyone involved is happy and getting what they want is good sex). I hated that episode so much. I did feel like those were more one-off episodes, though, and Booth was sometimes wrong in early seasons as well. And his religion was portrayed as more religion, as belief rather than objective fact the way it more is now.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, has it actually been 15 seasons? That seems long.

:googles:

It's on its 11th season? Really? Too keep it going that long is kinda crazy, actually.

You are stronger than me. I quit watching the show when it started getting like that.

I quit a couple seasons ago. I really loved it so I stuck longer than I should. The thing that drove it over the edge for me was first the standard gender roles in their parenting even though previously Brennan hadn't wanted kids and Booth had been a great father, and then Brennan agreeing to marriage and actually wanting to be married.

I didn't really like the Bones insert. The first words out of Bones' mouth were *about her kids* (they now have two). It was just...yuck.

Honestly, the whole deal with them was pointless - they had no reason whatsoever to cross the two shows, and nothing 'supernatural' even happened around Booth and Bones, so...what was the point? It was just lackluster.

A few days ago I would have agreed with you. But I watched the crossover last night and I actually really liked it. I thought it was fun.

I had no idea this was even going to happen, I don't watch either of these shows religiously but I might have to keep an eye out for this because it sounds like it could be fun.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-30 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It was a two hour crossover that aired last night, first with an episode of Bones and then a follow up episode of Sleepy Hollow. I watched it on a whim and I was surprised by how much I genuinely enjoyed it. It was weirdly fun.

Aha, I'll go hunt it down later then because I am intrigued and interested to see how they pull it off. Plus I want to see Abbie and Ichabod interact with Brennan and Booth, I'd like to think that'd be fun.

IMO, Bones was never a great show. It was okay in the early seasons, but the writing was always shaky as hell, with Temperance behaving as if she had Asperger's in some episodes (seriously, Booth had to remind her not to refer to someone's dead child as "the remains" to their face) and then in other episodes, she's amazing at socializing with other people. Basically, she exhibits antisocial behavior when convenient, and when it's convenient for her to suddenly get along with people, all of those issues are gone. Talk about a crappy job of characterization!

I tuned out right around that whole "Gormogon" bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I agree with your assessment of Bone's social skills. I just have a hard time believing she's capable of writing entertaining romance/mystery fiction if she can't understand the basics of human interaction.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
That too. I also can't imagine someone who frequently behaves like an alien from another planet carrying on healthy romantic relationships with functional men the way Bones supposedly did before Booth. Like... no. She probably wouldn't have any friends, given how she treats people.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
No, I totally can - I know several authors who are autistic. Writing people is a different skill to interacting with people.

Saw this episode last night and was not impressed at all. I've watched Bones from the beginning and avoided Sleepy Hollow like the plague. I found Ichabod Crane really stupid and Abby Mills really bland. Are they like that in every SH episode? Can't be bothered watching even one episode to find out for myself.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
I call troll. Because if you had that much of a dislike for stupid bland things, there's no way you could've watched 10+ seasons of Bones.

I wasn't aware that the Bones ep came first - i can't imagine how they even tied that in, the two universes crossing was utterly pointless.

And all Bones and Booth did was talk about their kids, jayzus, so...no, thank you. The bits that crossed over in SH were mercifully short, so i endured it, but it wasn't awesome.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Parents tend to talk about their kids every now and then. You seem weirdly bitter that they have kids.

Oh don't worry, OP, both shows are just figments of the imagination of an autistic child.

(Anonymous) 2015-10-31 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Fairly sure the crossover was not supposed to be canon for either show. Just a sort of fun Halloween thing. They've done it before, like with X-files meeting Cops.
