Re: Favorite Magic System

I like Tolkien's magic system because there isn't that much of it so it isn't a crutch that can be used to get out of everything. It just works within that world and can do some things, but it isn't a get out of jail free card. It is more subtle except in the most powerful beings, and even then they can't do everything.

I feel the same way about the ASOIAF/Game of Thrones magic. There is only a little of it, which is nice. It can do some things, but not everything.

Also the Force from Star Wars.

Really, I just like more subtle magic systems. While I do love Harry Potter, the magic systems I find most interesting are the ones that aren't as strong as that.
