Re: Healthcare!

Do you know how much a non-preventative doctor's office visit would cost you with the first one? Is there a co-pay or do you pay out-of-pocket for the whole thing?

Could you afford to pay the larger deductible if something happened?

Are you on any medications right now or is it likely you will go on any based on your needs or conversations with a doctor (birth control, high blood pressure, whatever) and have you checked how much they cost under these plans?

Okay, here are the answers. Also, Plan B is $129 and Plan A is $58.

Non-Preventative care cost
Plan A 30% Coinsurance after deductible In-Network, 50% Coinsurance after deductible Out-of-Network
Plan B (first 3 free) 20% Coinsurance after deductible In-Network, 30% Coinsurance after deductible Out-of-Network

I think I could pay it if there was an emergency. It would be hard and I'd have to do payments but I could do it.

I am on one medication which is a cream for my face. It has a generic alternative. Both plans I am looking at have, "No Charge In-Network, $5 Out-of-Network" for generic drugs.

I'd like to get on birth control. I am trying to figure out what they cover or not.

Pretty sure birth control is one of those meds that are covered, but I'd check with your doctor.

I'd personally go with the lower deductible because you never know what could happen in a year and if you can't afford the higher deductible, that's going to hit you hard.

If nothing bad happens, or even if the next year will be the same as last year in terms of what you need, plan A will be the cheapest. If you have to spend all the way up to your deductible, plan B will be cheaper. It's a bit of a gamble either way. If you are good at disciplining yourself to save, you could opt for the cheaper one and save the extra $71 towards healthcare costs that aren't covered.
