Time to make you slightly more irrationally happy. Hi.

I'm not really into this series either. It's just not really my thing. I think if I had a TV and it was a thing I caught once a week in the evenings, I would like it, but it's way too full of drama and suspense to be the sort of thing I can enjoy watching a lot of at once.

Me too. I liked the Ninth Doctor and couldn't really adjust to the Tenth Doctor. :(

Hi!! I think this series is a giant intolerable mess and the premise creeps the hell out of me. I don't understand how people can watch it as anything other than mindless entertainment.

I agree that it's a giant mess (that's mostly what I like about it), but I'm genuinely curious about why the premise creeps you out?

I like it but I definitely don't think it's the best thing ever. There are parts of it that really appeal to me, and parts of it that really aren't that interesting.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that liking Doctor Who actually makes you insane, os.

more like Dr. Who Cares?

It's fine if someone likes it but I can't be bothered.

When I worked at a comic book store some years back I watched the Tom Baker version but I've not seen any of the new ones. So. Hello. \o/

Is this Dr Who?

I have absolutely no interest in it. I've seen one and a half episodes across 6 years and still have no interest.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-08 08:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I used to like it but I don't care anymore. I've started calling it Dr. Who Gives a Rat's Ass.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-08 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
The superfans and the haters are both obnoxious, but I generally find the former more tolerable. At least they're being enthusiastic about something, if a little on the human steamroller side of things. I've had antifans barge in on conversations about other shows that have shared an actor with Who because they had to make it abundantly clear that they hate something that has only the most tangential connections to the topic at hand.

Chiming in as another person who doesn't overly care for Doctor Who. I don't mind it, and can watch an episode if it's on but I'm not particularly invested in it.

I really liked the season with Donna. I just really liked how one episode she had the option of going on zany adventures and was like, "Nah, you go do your thing. I'm gonna stay here and relax at this awesome resort. Ta ta!"

...could take or leave the rest.

I like it, and some eps/arcs I genuinely think are very good. But I can totally see why others wouldn't enjoy it (even if they do like similar things). I feel that way about other popular shows, where it's almost expected that you know what everyone is talking about and people give you odd looks if you say you just don't like it.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-08 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here, OP. I don't hate the series but it doesn't do anything for me. Especially New Who.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-08 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I like Tom Baker, McCoy, and Eccleston a lot. The rest are a mixed bag.

The doctor I actually watch the least is Hartnell. The plots are better than a bunch of the current ones, but the pacing is so slow it puts me to sleep.

Never watched any of it, zero interest in it, barely know anything about it.

I've never seen it and have no idea whether I would enjoy it or not, but I've never had any interest in watching because I don't want to get invested in a show that changes so much. Change is a source of stress in my real life; I don't need it wrapped into the premise of my fiction.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-09 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I have zero interest in DW, mainly because I will never be able to get even slightly invested in a story where the main characters keep being recycled. That's just not how I roll.

I know, I know, the Doctor is technically supposed to be the same soul or entity or whatever, and each new incarnation just brings a new twist to his character. Nope. No thank you. I really just want the same damn characters throughout.

Maybe, maybe if his companion was the same person throughout and it was only the doctor who changed (but was still sort of the same being) I could get into it. But even that's a bit doubtful. The writing would have to be really good about exploring what it's like, to build a relationship with someone and then to have them change so that you're perpetually having to start all over again while also never really being able to put the past behind you because technically you haven't really lost the person you lost.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-09 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
I really feel this general sentiment. Not about Doctor Who. I do like that. But other fandoms, yes. Sometimes the more people like things, the more off-putting it is for me.

My "no thanks" fandom is The Princess Bride. People talk about THAT like no one could ever be uninterested. Well, I didn't see it as a kid, and even as cute as Cary Elwes was back then... no. And stop talking about it.

No, I really don't care. There's nothing wrong with me. I'm just not into it, and you trying to "convince" me just drives me further away.
