Hi OP, could you please explain what this is to me, I see these skeleton cartoons all over my dash and I have literally no idea who/what they are and Google hasn't helped. Are they from a comic or a tv cartoon, or book or movie? Who are they even?

More in detail: They're from Undertale, which is a cute little indie game that hit in september and made a big splash.

Like the person above said this is Sans (a very important character) and Gaster, who is kind of a 'secret' character hidden mostly in the game's code (who may not be a skeleton after all?). Chances are if you were seeing two skeletons on your dash the other one was actually a third character rather than Gaster.

Since 'Gaster' isn't the name of a (heavily derided) font, I rather doubt he's a skelly...and even more that he's related to Sans and Papyrus.

His name is actually W.D. Gaster! Which many people theorize to be short for Wing Din Gaster -> Wingdings being a font, which appears in the secret 17th lab entry, as well as in dialogue with one of the hidden NPCs, and Aster being the font Sans' Zs are in, when he falls asleep. Wingdings is also implied to be what the blueprints in Sans' basement are written in.

I'm bemused that so many people are getting attached to this secret character. Is it the implied tragedy?

I can't speak for the OP, but I'm the person who made the Gaster secret last week; I tend to really enjoy characters that have a certain vagueness to them, some hooks and hints about who they are and what they're like, but with most things left to interpretation. While fleshed out characters are nice, it's the vague ones characters that make my imagination run wild! I love thinking of all the different possibilities for their lives, backgrounds and little details about them. That's why most of my favourite characters tend to be side or really minor ones.

Gaster is a really fascinating character, because all you have to go from is little hints and hooks, presented in a wonderfully mysterious and creepypasta-esque way. There's a lot to wonder and speculate about! His weird font thing is really cool, as well. He's also a scientist, and I just have a huge soft spot for scientist characters. . .

They're at the very least connected, and relation makes the most sense given the rest of the canon. The only skeletons we see are brothers.

I love all Gaster theories. Is he Sans and Pap's father? I LOVE IT
Is he Sans lover? I LOVE IT
Did he give Sans his power and he's now haunting him? I LOVE IT
Is he actually a villain? I LOVE IT

Maybe it's just because we know zero shit about him, so people can run wild with fan theories, and I find that a real fun. I just love all theories about him, I can't decide which one I like more asaaaAAA
