Alright, I'll give you that. But I was referring more to the fact that there are no hints to the pairing at all rather than the sexual orientation of the characters.

I wouldn't mind it so much if it wasn't so widespread and the fangirl's weren't so fucking rabid about it.

Well, you're talking to someone who ships based on potential rather than "subtext" in canon.

But yeah, it's a goddamn stupid pairing with a creepy power dynamic and has canon directly contradicting it. Plus Ed sucks.

It's an idiotic pairing that was born from the yaoi fantasies of fanbrats. But I wouldn't care if it hadn't infected the whole damn fandom with it's wtf-ery. And Ed is a douche, but I've seen worse main characters.

Not really; I just tend to get bristled when people claim a character is straight/gay/whatever when no actual admission of this has been made by said character.

It's goddamn stupid and its propagation in fandom leads me to believe the fandom is full of morons. What really gets me is the fact that until a certain point in the OAV, Ed is seriously underage.

AMEN. About 90% of the ships posted on fma_yaoi are Roy/Ed, and only a handful of those are even remotely IC and well written. I don't mind the pairing, but I don't ship it, and I really WISH people would give other pairings a chance. I know, I should get on and write for some of these pairings for some diversity.

It's not the age difference that squicks me out (hell, I ship movie!Roy/movie!Al and there's a good 23 + year difference), or that I ship them with other people. They just. Don't. Work. For a quickie, maybe, but not 'OMG TRU WUV'. They just clash too much, and whilst they seem to have a mutual understanding come the end of the series/movie, it's JUST THAT. Ed seems pretty asexual to me most of the time anyway.

You've basically summed up everything that irks me about RoyEd. I mean, I have nothing against yaoi in any form, but this ship just so...stupid! They are always fighting, Ed can't shut up about how much he hates Roy, and Roy treats Ed mainly as a tool rather than a person. I just can't see the chemistry. I like my ships to be at least SLIGHTLY plausible, but this makes no sense to me. Like I said, there wouldn't be a problem if it hadn't taken over everything in the fandom.

I wish the FMA fandom had more diversity; from what I've seen it's mainly Ed either screwing Roy or screwing his brother. At least Ed/Al makes some sort of sense, but I'm not into incest, so bleh.

There's room for multiple pairings in any fandom, just because one or two is most popular doesn't mean you can't find people who enjoy yours as well. I ship a pretty ridiculous pairing and I've found compatriots -- it just takes a bit of work ;)

Depends on what era of the fandom you were around for - early on it was pretty crazy XD Like most fandoms, it's calmed down a lot.

Wait, Ed showed attraction to Alfons?

(I'm not trying to be a bitch, I just feel ridiculous arguing about whether or not Ed Elric is bisexual or straight.)

XD; Er, if anything it's the other way around...the movie does a great job of making Alfons look like he's mooning after Ed, but Ed doesn't seem to notice he exists ;) (And that's coming from someone who ships it, too - cause ultimately, arguing about what a character's sexuality is or what ships are/aren't there is pretty ridiculous. That's why fanfic and the back button exists ;)

Yeah, one of the big things that irk me about this pairing is that the vast majority of its fans seem to completely forget the fact that Ed hates Roy's guts with a passion (and Roy isn't very fond of Ed either).

Yeah, in the anime. o.o While Roy does have a protective streak towards Ed a mile wide, you can't tell me Ed doesn't actively dislike Roy.

Mm, by the end Ed seems to have grown up a lot - I don't get the same juvenile HAET YOU >E reaction from him, you could even argue they've come to terms. But hey, that's why there's fandom :) If everybody interpreted every story the same way, the world would be orderly but ultimately rather dull XD

Er, I don't like the Roy/Ed pairing, and I'm not part of fandom (I just read the manga), but I really have to disagree on the hate part. The developing mutual respect (and what I think will be a very equal friendship in the future) between Ed and Roy is a rather important part of their characterisations. The developing trust Ed feels for Roy is also pretty important to the plot...
