Wait, is he still a part of the franchise? Did they literally take the least popular part of the old SW universe and include it in their new films? :D

The only rumor I heard about Jar Jar was going to be set up to be killed, horribly.

I think JJ said something like "Maybe I'll include a shot of his bones in the desert", but I doubt it'll be in the film. (And it sounded like more of a joke then anything.)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
i thought it was basically confirmed that it was all true

if only jj abrams had the balls to put jar jar in the new movies lmao

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
where in hell did you hear that

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought he was on Alderaan when Tarkin made his house call?

Of course if he turns out to be Supreme Leader Snoke (or whatever Kylo "Ren" Solo's boss is called) all along then that would be fricking hilarious.

Dude, fucking spoiler warning that shit!

Chill, nothing's been confirmed about anyone's parentage anywhere. It's all wild mass guessing at this point.

I don't think for a second it's legit at all, but it's a fun theory nonetheless(though if it did turn out to be real I would be thoroughly amused).

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Since I actually enjoyed Jar Jar, I like the thought that he was originally going to have a bigger role. And the theory is just so trolly, I love it.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
what theory? can someone explain/link?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-15 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
If it's the one someone explained to me recently, it's that Jar Jar was originally supposed to be secretly working for the bad guys, and would betray them in the last movie or something.

That's amazing.

It really is. I can only imagine how much time and effort it took to put together; I find it quite impressive.

Like, even if you find it ridiculous, this person put together a damn good, extensive post, and they clearly have this whole thing mapped out. I like it.

ayrt

haha i love it

The tl;de is that Jar Jar was secretly a very skilled sith lord, uses drunken fist moves in battle to win while appearing bumbling, waves his hands to mask the fact he's Mind Tricking everyone into agreeing with him, and was originally set up as the Anti-Yoda - weird funny talking swamp thing turns out to be insanely powerful.

Aaand then he was so universally hated the idea was scrapped. It's surprisingly convincing.

As someone who had mixed feelings about Jar Jar (I didn't loathe him like the majority of the fanbase, but I wasn't exactly fond of him either) I love this theory. It's so well written; clearly a lot of thought went into it. It even seems weirdly probable what with all the 'evidence'.

(...Okay, I use the word evidence lightly, but the clips make sense when you look at them in that context, and it sounds like Lucas did change Jar Jar's character arc. Probably not from this exact route, but I want to believe. It would be kind of epic and hilarious if it were true.)

The first time I saw that post on my dash I went, "What the fuck is this? That sounds ridiculous" and I scrolled right past it. I saw it again a bit later and went, "Okay, I'll give it a shot."

I spent wayyyyyy too long going through that post, but the more I read the more it worked for me and the more I liked the idea.

Frankly, I'm also tickled how much the Star Wars fandom has embraced this theory after all the rampant Jar Jar hate over the years. It's amusing to see how quickly opinions can change.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-16 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
The big thing to me is that the post explains why people hate him (well, besides the terrible racism) because he's a terrible awful Mary Sue. And what makes a Mary Sue awful is that stuff happens for them for no real reason other than they're special. Wesley Crusher is the only person on the internet who doesn't get addicted to a video games because..... ??? Um, well, because he's Wesley Crusher! That's why!

But you suddenly give Jar Jar a solid reason to have all that stuff happen for him and it takes away the Sue.

But...Clone wars?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-16 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
I never watched the Jar Jar episodes of Clone Wars, but does this theory jive with it or just handwave (Pun intended!) the Clone Wars away?

Re: But...Clone wars?

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-11-16 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
I can't remember the details (And I never watched Clone Wars) but Clone Wars was mentioned a couple times in that post; if anything I think Clone Wars meshed well with it. (I seem to recall reading that Jar Jar successfully pretended to be a Jedi at one point.)

Now there was one thing that seemed questionable (the rule of two, though I think there have been one or more exceptions to that), but considering all the other points seem to make sense... It looks more yay then nay from my point of view!
