I loved the first one as a kid (not sure I even saw the others, believing that the same (?) family left their kid at home while on vacation (?) THREE TIMES is too insane).

But I haven't watched them sense and when I'm reminded of this franchise I just think back on how violent and crazy it was and wonder at the fact this was a 'children's movie'.

They don't. In the second one he gets separated from them, in the second it's a different kid and he's just home sick from school.

Ah, alright. I guess him getting separated is a bit more believable as shit happens, but you'd think after the first film that family would watch him like a hawk.

As for the third film it's clear that isn't the same kid, but I thought it might've been another of the families kids. It's still pretty crazy that the same thieves are around, but that's movies for you.

IIRC, in the second one they do watch Kevin like a hawk (And Kevin is equally aware of the family movement in the house) because of what happened before. IT's just when they get to the airport and there's a change of gates when everything goes crazy. The adults assume KEvin is following due to a similar dressed kid, Kevin is following a man with the same coat as his dad.

And it is pre 9/11 so I guess taking the wrong plane was still plausible.

(plus, the thieves are not in Chicago anymore. They moved to New York)

Haha, of course they are. Kind of cliche, but it works for the story I guess!

They moved to New York

Ooo, well that's something at least, but they have 'bad luck'.
