My advice to you all

Gift cards. Gift cards, gift cards, gift cards.

They're not bad gifts. They're not lazy gift. They're power. They are free money that the recipient can use to buy the thing they want, but

a) No one thought to get them, or
b) They didn't think to tell anyone they wanted, or
c) They were afraid to ask for because it's nerdy/embarrassing/personal/expensive/etc.

Gift cards. To their favorite store, to their closest store, to their local grocery store, to a shoe store, to Starbucks, to Amazon, to a gas station.

Prepaid Visa and Mastercard are also acceptable.

They make fantastic stocking stuffers, or stick that sucker in a little box, and put the little box in a bigger box, and continue until you run out of boxes, and then wrap that giant freaking box, and they will not be disappointed there isn't a car in it, because it's a gift card and they can buy shit they want with it.

tl;dr: Gift cards.

You can't really go wrong with gift cards imo. (Unless you just hate the store the gift card is for, or you don't really have anything you want there. If I'm going to buy a gift card I tend to get it at a place I know the person likes and shops at often, or I ask them what their preference is.)

Last year I think I got something like $80 in Starbucks cards because it's the only thing people know for sure I'll like. It was awesome and I was 100% grateful and I gleefully spent the hell out of them.

Eh, they can be nice if you actually know what the person likes. I keep getting gift cards for stuff I don't like. Starbucks wouldn't work for me. I also don't like mediocre chain restaurants. Grocery and gas would be nice, but people rarely get those because they don't seem as festive.
