I don't mind spine breaking or other anatomy issues/exaggeration as long as it works as an image. These sure don't look appealing, but pretending cartoons have to 1:1 perfect anatomy when they're all about caricature and exaggeration is pretty silly.

Just going by the pics in the secret I'd say the problem is more with the men looking way more anatomically correct than the women. THAT is what makes it look weird. It would fit if the men was equally distorted.

DA. I'm actually kind of tired of fandom bringing up anatomy to argue against certain art ascetics because the point of style and design in art does not always come down to anatomy alone.

Like if we want to talk about the sexism of doing that to female characters and not the male ones, then sure, let's talk about that. But I don't think the solution is to tell artists to stop exaggerating and pushing shapes, especially when a lot of "correction" blogs I've seen actually end up making the poses stiff and boring (not to mention there are some people who aren't aware of what the human body can do/they themselves aren't that flexible so they assume others aren't.)

I think someone can objectively be an amazing (as in talented) and highly skilled artist, while still drawing skeevy, sexy shit though? I get your argument that the anatomy is bad/pose is awkward, etc. But art like that is frankly meant to titillate, to see sexy, that's its sole purpose, imo. So in that sense, I don't think it has to be "accurate".

Like, I'm as disturbed as anyone by that, but it doesn't necessarily mean the artist doesn't actually know how to draw a woman realistically, and it doesn't mean the artist isn't extremely skilled.

Like, there are artists who draw Escher girls b/c they legit don't know or care how bodies work (see Liefeld), and then there are artists who draw Escher girls b/c they're aiming for a specific kind of 'sexy' stylization (this guy, Xa Houssin, most hentai artists).

Criticizing the anatomy of something that's intentionally distorted is, imo, kind of ridiculous. It's like criticizing the Hulk because his muscles are too big. Of course they are, that's the point of the Hulk. The style might not be to your liking (I certainly am not a huge fan of this type of hentai), but that doesn't mean the artist lacks technical skill.

He's also responsible for that image that shows up on /d/ sometimes where the guy is saying "I cheated on you with your neighbor's dog!" I think his stuff is funny, but I didn't expect to see him praised as a great artist in any sense of the phrase.
