Doctor Who (Ten's Run) [spoilers]

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2015-11-29 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I recently rewatched the last 10 or so episodes with my sister (her first time viewing). So, I just want to talk about how amazing Donna is and how sad her story ended.

Also, my sister really disliked Rose and was really annoyed that her scene was the last companion scene when the Doctor was saying goodbye (I am not a huge fan of her either so...).

Donna was amazing. I hate what they did to her character. I would love to see her again, but I can't imagine she'd have many favorable things to say if she did somehow remember safely.

I actually liked first season Rose; not so much second season Rose, though. She worked better with Eccleston as being a Companion than a potential love interest. And they spent so much of Martha's season with the Doctor pining and Martha pining, so in a way it screwed over Martha's character as well.

This to all of your comment.

Eccleston was a great Doctor and I wish he'd stayed on longer anyway, but especially with regards to Rose's change from simple Companion to Love Interest with Ten. I thought that had been weird even when I first watched DW and actually shipped Rose and the Doctor. And it really screwed over Martha; I adore her as Companion but can't really re-watch most of her episodes because Ten's moping gets on my nerves.

AYRT -

THIS.

It threw me the first time too, because due to watching Torchwood and trying to figure out some timey wimey things (if you will), I actually saw the last three or four Martha episodes first, when she was badass. So seeing her as originally pining over the Doctor... really didn't work for me, even if she was great in other ways.

Yeah, that is one of the reasons I love Donna. She wasn't in love or pining over the Doctor.

This is how I feel about Rose too. I loved her with 9. Then they started pushing the romance angle hard and she started really not working for me with 10. Then she left and yet everything was still about her. And she screwed over Martha's storyline and parts of Donna's too.

I feel as though that's one of those scenes where you really feel RTD's bias. I like his run on DW more than Moffat's, but his favouritism towards Rose really got in the way sometimes. :/

Yeah, I get they have an epic romance but it doesn't not have to be front and center when she is in any way involved.

I just rewatched the Agatha Christie episode and god, Catherine Tate and David Tennant's chemistry was so amazing. I want them to work together again and for me to not feel sad about it at the end.

As to the Rose being in Ten's last episode, I liked it. I saw on tumblr once something about how Ten was born looking at Rose Tyler so it made sense that he died wanting to see her too. And from a practical standpoint there was some suspense over how they would work her in, so having her be last was like a big reveal.

Also, I am such a sucker for things like that, so I would have loved it no matter what. WOOHOO, NARRATIVE BOOKENDS!

I guess I just couldn't stand how thirsty she was after the Doctor. Like...she was the Bella of Doctor Who.

DA

lololol Well, the thirst was reciprocated. But 10 left everyone else in dire need of hydration.

(Poor Martha. I did love how she went FUCK THIS SHIT! I DON'T NEED YOU! at the end. And Donna was just fun :) )

yass! I love Donna sfm, partly because I kick it OldWho and find the 'best bros' dynamic much more natural and watchable than "TROO LUV DEEP ANGST BURNIN UP STARS 2 SAY BYE" RTD rot. Him and Rose were horrifyingly feedback loop-y in their dysfunction, so Donna always being like "HAHA no" when he gets crazy but also supporting him was my JAM.

Her ending is SO sad. Exactly the way Jamie and Zoe's end was tragic! TPTB are fuckers. (Where are all my fics of Tiny Tardis Team and Donna gettin they memories back and going off to kick time lord ass and save the universe??)

Donna is my favorite Who companion. 10 is my least favorite Doctor, but he worked best with Donna. Their chemistry was perfect. She called him out when he went too far. She was just really amazing.

That is actually one of the things that made me like Clara once she was with 12. They had that same sort of dynamic where she didn't let him get away with things.

I started liking Clara for the same reason. She and Twelve have a fun dynamic and I like seeing her call him out on stuff.

Donna's end with the mind wipe and the Doctor watching her from afar at her wedding made me cry some really ugly tears. Like, full blown sobbing with snot and tears. I loved Donna. She's my favorite companion and her and Ten were so damn fun together. I really liked Martha as well and thought she was so cool in the last few episodes of her run. I would've loved to see her join Torchwood permanently. I liked Rose with Nine, but not with Ten, and I hated how she got a relatively happy ending compared to the rest of Ten's companions.
