[Master and Commander/Aubrey/Maturin series]

I LOVE IT.

I frickin' adore this movie (though I haven't read any of the books).

(Anonymous) 2015-11-30 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I want more too. I wonder who would play Aubrey and Maturin if they did do a miniseries.

Russell Crowe was a great Aubrey, sometimes sexy and sometimes a kinda gross dork. It would be great to have someone small and dark-haired as Maturin. Daniel Radcliffe maybe? He seems into being a bit squirrly

I heartily approve. It's my favourite movie by far and wide (less keen on the books, since I'm more of a Hornblower person, but they have their charme as well, and can you imagine how a tv fandom would suck up all the kidnapping and torture angst Stephen gets put through? Also, I'd be so here for HBIC Diana. ;___;)

You and me OP, you and me.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
And me.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-30 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved this movie too, though I ended up shipping Jack Aubrey/Tom Pullings so I've been in a tiny corner.

This movie is wonderful.
Also, totally agreed on the miniseries. I wish there was one.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
This wasn't popular? Hmmmm... I thought it made bunches of money, was nominated for best picture (losing out to one of the LOTR movies) and did get an Oscar for it's director and a couple of other things (costuming?)

But yeah...there is not a lot of fic written for it, if that is how you judge popularity?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
if it didn't make enough money back to warrant the proposed sequel it's hardly popular, is it? They'd plans to make this a movie series.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it made bunches of money

The production budget was $150 million; the worldwide gross box office income was $212 million. Rule of thumb to determine whether a film is successful or not is to multiply the production budget by 2.5 and compare that amount to the box office income. In this instance, $212 million is a lot less than $375 million, which means the film was a financial flop.

The box office takings were in the $212 million range, which sounds great except that the budget was $150 million. I know this still sounds like a bunch of money to you or I, but when it comes to big budget movies that's not a good enough profit to be considered a successful film. If it had been, there'd be sequels because that's how Hollywood is.

I love this movie so much and wanted more of them. Good soundtrack, too.

Hah, that soundtrack is my go-to "I can listen to this any time any day" soundtrack. I love it so.

This movie is underrated ... I want slash

Uh-huh... I was happy for a moment to see someone who appreciated the movie. Oh well.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Surely both things can be appreciated at the same time? We humans are complex and contain multitudes.

I don't ship anyone in this (slash or het), but I adore the movie. One of my favorites.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
One of my favourite movies to watch when I'm feeling poorly. I love the music too.

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2015-12-01 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! I love this movie and wish it had sequels too!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, this was one of the best movies I have ever seen. But I am not too disappointed about the lack of sequels because the chance of hitting that standard again seens remote.

I would be utterly down for a miniseries, though. Especially if it included Sophie and Diana.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-01 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! You didn't have to tell us it was for the slash, we knew.

100 percent agree. This movie was *excellent*. These two gentlemen, playing their music together, so intense and so happy? Hells yes.
