I'm pretty sure you can call yourself a fan if you've only played 4--maybe not a KNOWITALLOHSOTRUE fan, but a fan. A little depressing, yeah, but IMO whatever brings new people to the series is a good thing; I know a handful of people that took a few months to go on to others, but started with 4!

38: I hate Shinji because he's such a spineless pussy coward who only SAVES THE GODDAMN WORLD because everyone else fucking forces him to. He's screamingly incompetent and has less than zero self-esteem, which doesn't even make any sense. The worst part, however, is that so many people actually model themselves after this spineless, worthless except for the deus ex machina reasons, angsty emo kid.

Actually, the pivotal point of the anime is where Shinji is actually given a free pass to go back to where he came from, and to never come back; he goes as far as the train station, and then he goes back and begs to be allowed to fight, and to fight of his own free will. Since, you know, he's of very little use as long as he fights unwillingly.

I really don't understand how anyone could miss it - it's one of the most important parts of the anime, and the major turning point for Shinji's character...
