Re: What socially progressive ideas of today do you think will become abhorrent to future generation

I think, tho it may take some time, that the MRM will travel the same path as feminism did. I mean, feminism took a long ass time to get to where it is today, and it started off with literally the same problems (Dickheads being too visible in the movement. Seriously early feminists were some awful people.) and the same arguments ("They don't care about Men / Women, they're just man-haters / woman-haters") that after about a century the MRM will be in the same place feminism is today.

I would kill every one of them to stop this future happening.

I should hope that your attitude will be abhorrent in the future generation as well.

NA

Why? MRA's are terrible.

Imagine if someone wanted to or tried to wipe out feminists in their early days because they found some of the early extreme ones to be horrible people.

You're worse, so there's that.

I wouldn't kill anyone, unless it was directly in self-difense, but yes, this is a bleak future indeed. Well, a bleak future for half the population.

Seriously early feminists were some awful people.

Interesting. I have literally only ever seen it presented as "noble women fighting for the cause". Do you have any sources for the terrible early feminists?

DA

The criticism I've read about early feminism was that they ignored the plight of WoC (which, to contextualize things a little, is something that was also done by anti-racist movements of the time) and that it focused mostly on the needs of upper class women, which again was also true for a lot of movements of the time. So really, there were no worse or better than any other group of activists from their time.

Here are a couple of links. This isn't all the information there is, but this is fandom secrets, not a grad school essay.

http://www.racismreview.com/blog/2014/02/18/trouble-with-white-feminism/

Despite the early support of African American men such as Douglass, suffragists like Stanton could not abide the idea that black men might get the franchise to vote ahead of white women.

Stanton didn’t hesitate to voice her opinion that white women were superior to black men, and thus more deserving of the vote. Lori Ginzberg, in her biography of Elizabeth Cady Stanton (Hill and Wang, 2009), recounts some of the racial politics here:

"Asked straight out whether she were ‘willing to have the colored man enfranchised before the woman,’ she answered ‘no; I would not trust him with all my rights; degraded, oppressed himself, he would be more despotic with the governing power than even our Saxon rulers are.’"

http://the-toast.net/2014/04/21/suffragettes-sucked-white-supremacy-womens-rights/

“I do not want to see a negro man walk to the polls and vote on who should handle my tax money, while I myself cannot vote at all…When there is not enough religion in the pulpit to organize a crusade against sin; nor justice in the court house to promptly punish crime; nor manhood enough in the nation to put a sheltering arm about innocence and virtue—-if it needs lynching to protect woman’s dearest possession from the ravening human beasts—-then I say lynch, a thousand times a week if necessary.”

(Obviously, The Toast isn't the Number One Best source, but they are listing quotes, and you can probably google them to find more information)

The thing is that while early feminism was flawed, they did focus on real issues faced by - white, married, cis - women (e.g. properties right, reproductive rights, the right to vote, etc). Women entering the movement could be put off by their methods, but there was still these core issues to unite them.

Whereas currently MRM is focused mostly on made up issues, and people who enter MRM circles with the idea of facing real issues often end up either getting sucked into the rhetoric or skedaddling away. Which is why I think the current MRM will push back several decades the emergence of a real movement for the rights of men.

You're talking about a future generation where feminism dies. This is not a good thing. You're talking about a world where the last several decades of teaching men how to be real men is erased. You're describing a horror story.

Actually, I think they were shooting for a future where women and men are actually equal, instead of the current thing we have where in order to boost women, we have to stomp the shit out of men.

To put it bluntly, the problems faced by and rights denied to modern men (especially black men) get more respect and assistance from feminists than from supposed advocates for men's rights. While feminists reach out to make the group larger in the name of "intersectionality," men's rights groups divide their audience smaller and smaller.

yeah but, like

MRAs are abjectly and totally terrible

there may be a men's rights movement, but it will not be in any way related to the current MRA
