Ooooh, love it! I have one of these: The idea of gender being a social construct.

It's popular now, but I genuinely believe that as we learn more and more about gender through trans people getting into STEM and choosing to look into trans issues, I genuinely believe that we will find the idea of "Gender is just something people made up" to be factually incorrect and also will be looked back on as a transphobic myth.

I don't understand. Are you saying that future generations, after looking into transgender issues, will find that gender doesn't exist? So they'd invalidate trans people, or?

I believe the opposite. In the future, gender will become less relevant as traditional gender roles blur, until nobody will be able to tell - and nobody will think or care about - who has a penis and who has a vagina.

I think you're wrong on that one. Sex is definitely a thing on some level, but it's messier than pop science usually admits, and there's a lot more variation within "male brains" and "female brains" than the typical ranters claim.

What I don't like about the terms is that it basically defines gender as society defines gender. "Gender is a social construct" means that female gender likes pink, dresses, and dolls. Male gender likes blue, trucks and action figures. That's bullshit and all those are are stereotypes, they aren't "gender".

And I do not get the "biological sex is a social construct!" that's the current buzz phrase. I get that intersex people exist, but male and female sex are things. Evolution is just not that edgy.

However, if you're implying that you believe male and female brains are different, not sure about that.

Seriously, I could respond to half these comments with this. "You're using the word 'gender' to refer to something that's typically defined as 'sex,' and you're acting like any argument about 'gender' is also an argument about 'sex.'"

All the gender nonsense that's been picking up steam and gaining g popularity. Eventually it'll go back to cis, trans and snowflake idiots, and gender will be better for it.

This. Misrepresenting a culture can stay bad, though. By which I mean: Tomahawk chop at football games=bad but learning traditional dance is not, for a Native American example

I don't think so, I think people will become more respectful of important, sacred cultural traditions/materials.

But I do think cultures are going to continue to combine and become less distinct, and most people will be mixed race and probably have less ethnic/cultural division.

Nah. Cultural appropriation is bad, but what gets screamed about on tumblr isn't actually cultural appropriation most of the time.

Taking things that are sacred to another culture and bastardizing them = cultural appropriation, wrong.

Someone learns to cook a food that didn't originate in their culture = not cultural appropriation, not wrong.

I think that the blanket hatred people have for conservatives will eventually be seen by society as groundless "Them and us" bullshit, just like every other time people have been encouraged to fight against a particular group for existing.

I'm not sure if you'd call this progressive, but there are some people who are really insistent that people should only write about cultural backgrounds their ancestors came from. I don't think that idea will age well at all.

I think, tho it may take some time, that the MRM will travel the same path as feminism did. I mean, feminism took a long ass time to get to where it is today, and it started off with literally the same problems (Dickheads being too visible in the movement. Seriously early feminists were some awful people.) and the same arguments ("They don't care about Men / Women, they're just man-haters / woman-haters") that after about a century the MRM will be in the same place feminism is today.

It's cruel to let people with this disability be able to live because they can only live horrible painful lives and it's better for them not to exist at all to be spared the pain.

Especially when the disorder has a huge spectrum of severity.

I'm hoping the pendulum will swing back away from the current trend for arbitrary pigeonholing of sexuality in favor of something a bit more fluid.

And I hope the "Urban Archipelago" model of progressive electoral politics dies in the United States, along with "fuck the South."

Also I hope the last 20 years of letting antitheism drive the discourse regarding atheists and religion burns out.
