I'd like to see a list of users who have clicked said box, to know who the "validate me" assholes in the fandom are.

Ditto.

I'd like to find the entitled assholes like you who feel like they're owed infinite hours of labour without so much as a 'thank you'.

If you choose freely to spend your "infinite" (seriously, look that word up) hours writing something that, by your own will, you upload to a website for free, to be enjoyed by strangers at will... and you expect something in return for ALL THAT EFFORT that you put forth willingly... you should stop writing fan fiction, and devote your hard work to writing for profit, so that you can earn the validation you think that you are entitled to.

Since I see you're incapable of understanding hyperbole, and since the way you spelled 'fan fiction' makes me suspect you're not in the fandom (pro tip: only journalists who haven't bothered to do their homework spell it that way), I'll explain this as simply as I can: People want to read fanfiction. Writing fanfiction takes time. A quick 'I enjoyed that!' increases the chances someone will keep writing fanfiction. It's that simple.

If you are so salty that people ask for the occasional comment in exchange for their hard work... you should stop reading fanfiction and pay for your literature so you can read all the stories you think you're entitled to.

LOL. Been writing in various fandoms since the mid 90s, but okay with your pro tip there. Cute.

Here's my tip to you: If you're only writing for people to say that they liked it, you're doing it wrong. Write because you want to write, because you have a good story to tell, and because you enjoy writing. Your life will be a lot less stressful, and those infinite hours will be a lot less grueling.

If you're ONLY doing it for them, yeah, you're doing it wrong.

But if you think most writers won't get discouraged if they wrote a 10.000 words fic and get no feedback at all, you live on a very different plain of existence.

I don't think that, which is why I didn't say that.

NA

But the thing is, unless you're writing in a very small fandom, or for a widely hated pairing, if your fic doesn't suck you will get feedback. Maybe not a thrillingly large avalanche of it, but you'll get some.

Your conspiracy theory against ayrt in the first paragraph is hilarious. FS is such a niche community these days, and you think we're getting a casual poster who's somehow not in fandom.

Lol @ 'pro tip'

Hi, I'm a writer. I spend hours on my fic, and while I love getting comments, I don't get pissy when people don't leave them. Because I'm not a whiny little brat who feels they should be lavished with non-stop praise for something they do as a fucking hobby.

YOU are the entitled one here.

Oh shut up. If you're posting it online, it's for validation. Lie to yourself all you want - hell, you might even convince yourself! But if you truly didn't care, you wouldn't publish your fic. You'd keep it to yourself.

AYRT

lol no.

Not everyone is as insecure as you are.

Not always for validation.

I'm writing a fic for a rarepair that has about 5- 10 fics in total, that I've found. I only want to add to the small pile of fics there are, should someone else stumble upon the pairing and feel sad upon realizing the dearth of fic.

Also, at the moment, it's not even posted on a platform that reaches a bunch of people. Eventually I might post it there, but for the moment, one will have to search, much as I did.

No?

I enjoy writing. I write my thing, drop it into the fanfic stream and move on. You sound very uptight and fragile. You should stop projecting your issues onto others and work on that.

NAYRT-- I don't post my fic, but maybe they post in the hope of making other people happy? You, on the other hand, apparently post to be an ass.

Yeah that's why people never write fic for rare pairings and obscure fandoms... oh wait!
