I sort of have to agree.

and I love X-Men, I came into Marvel fandom because of them. But I think it's very hit-and-miss with how they get the characters in the movies..

And yeah, it is business.

I don't quite get this argument... There are still a ton of Ebooks, it's pretty clear they're not going away.

Yeah, it's sucky but I do get why they're doing it from a business standpoint. Doesn't mean I like it but I get it.

Aren't promoting and pushing the same thing...? The wording confused me (and I'm a native speaker...), but I assume OP is talking about them down-playing/pushing ASIDE the non-Disney properties...?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That confused me, too. After a while I came to the same conclusion as you, but I'm not familiar with the workings of Marvel, who owns what property or anything so I still can't be sure.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-06 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I figured that too, OP is trying to say Disney is pushing aside the properties it doesn't own and promoting the ones it does.

And yeah I'm with the OP on this one. Obviously it sucks, but it's business. Besides its not like the X-Men and FF have been completely eliminated from Marvel they're just not in the spotlight as much. I mean FFS Reed, Sue and Doom all have huge roles in Secret Wars, and I'm pretty sure Marvel doesn't own them.

Does anyone really expect Disney to do it any other way?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-07 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Technically, Disney can't promote a property that it doesn't own, so I don't quite understand the issue...

Is it that Marvel is allowing the Disney properties to be more visible? This is probably because Disney has the money to promote what it owns. That would be my guess anyway.

Marvel does have a choice in building up the comic storylines of characters whose movie rights are owned by Sony or Fox, but even if they choose to cut/diminish those characters in ongoing comics, it's not like those other movie studios can't draw on previous years' worth of stories or make up their own shit.
