*raises eyebrow* What've you got against Ten?

Nine is actually my fave, but Ten's a close second.

Man, do you really have to ask? I mean, it's obviously going to be: he was too popular, too many straight girls liked him, and they only like Doctor Who because they think he was sexy. Or something else equally stupid to the same effect.

Not the OP, but... yeah, I get it. I like 10 and thought he made an excellent Doctor. But in my experience, the people who only like 10 aren't fans of the series, per se, they're fans of David Tennant, in that particular reincarnation.

I'd say the same about people who only like Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and don't like any other adaptations or the ACD stories. They're not ACD fans or even Sherlock Holmes fans, they like one actor, in specific interpretation of a specific role.

Why Ten specifically? To do see him as the biggest outlier of the Doctors or do you think they are just fans of Tennant?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
What if the whole reason we like an incarnation (Nine in my case) is because we only like the actor?

I don't watch this show at all but what's wrong with that particular iteration?

On the one hand, I think anyone who likes any of Who is a fan. On the other hand I kind of understand the sentiment behind this because there is a specific breed of 10-only fans who only like him because he's hot, don't seem to actually get Who, think that no one else should think anything is better than 10, and just in general seem less Who fans and more Tennant fans.

Lolololol Rock on, OP!

I mean, on the one hand, 10 was my least favorite.

On the other hand, I honestly don't care what other people do with their fandom time.

What? What?

No, that's understandable.

There were some fantastic episodes in 10's era though. I feel like if you think people can be a fan of Who with any Doctor, then 10 should be included.

There's nothing particularly different about his era that his should be your exception. If you say, "Well some people only watched because they loved/had a crush on Tennant" I think you're not aware of how often that happens with EVERY Doctor.

I like Nine and Ten but I don't consider myself a Who fan, I just kind of end up watching it if it's on when I'm in the same room.

I'm a Nine and Ten fan, but I'm more of an RTD Who fan than a Moffat Who fan, so there's that. Can't be helped.

And I go to conventions and produce fanworks, so I don't know how much more of a real fan I can be there, Judgypants McGee.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Why Ten and not, like, Eleven? I've met some rabid Eleven fans.

Ten's the reason I got into the show. David Tennant's an amazing actor. I'm a big fan of Twelve too, but I've got a real soft spot for Ten because he's "my" Doctor.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I liked Ten. Until he did this downward wtf dramatic boo hoo WOE IS ME I AM DYING spiral near the end where it was just like, "Oh my god, dramallama get over it, stfu and regenerate with some fucking dignity."

I could honestly say 10 was my favorite (especially when Donna was the companion) until I stumbled upon the Eighth Doctor Adventures.

Now I'm in love with Eight and Fitz Kreiner.

I hear you, anon --

and not for any of the Tennant Fangirl reasons people are giving above: that he's too-fawned over by a certain fannish subset, or that he's just especially good in his episodes or performance.

I think of Tennant as a "cold" actor: sharp and intense in their performance, but also lacking the ability of projecting true empathy. I'm simply not drawn to those actors (Matt Smith had warmth in spades, and Eccleston could shift from one scene to the next from warm to cold; both I liked).

Well us Ten fans say Fuck You too, asswhipe.
