Like Hatsune Miku and vocaloids?

I think those will definitely have fan followings, but I have a hard time seeing robots completely overtake human performers and entertainment artists. Robots are cool because "ooh technology" but once you get over that, a robot will just never be as interesting as a real person, or very interesting at all for that matter. And hey, fans of celebrities love the drama of real humans, what exactly would you gossip about in regards to robots?

I'm thinking that. We have a big culture of celebrity worship and a big part of that is an interest in the real life drama's of celebs. I don't think that's so easily replaced with androids.

I wouldn't mind artificial celebrities since I hate all the worship and drama. Also, from a director or manger point of view, wouldn't it be easier to work with robots since you don't need to pay them and they obey anything you say?

A film directly mostly just wants actors who are really good at conveying the human emotions needed for that scene - and let's be honest, robots are not on point there.

Producers would care about budget, but having a custom-made android might not be cheaper than a person, especially a lesser known actor.

I was assuming the hypothetical robots would be at the stage where they are indistinguishable from humans.

Good point about the cost. Androids would be crazy expensive. Unless they're mass-produced or something.

I would still like to see a movie featuring only robots. Of course, with today's technology it'd probably be really creepy. Maybe as a horror movie.

That would work!

Honestly, I don't see that running. Celebrities have star power because they have personalities and lives. I'm not for worship or drama either, but if I like things about a certain actor as a person, or if I hear how they worked to become a certain role, I might be more likely to see the movie. Movies would lose all starpower boosts if they only had robot actors.

Robots being "easier to work with" isn't really something we can discuss because those robots don't exist yet. Presumably they'd be expensive. And how would you program them to react a certain way, conveying certain emotions? I think it'd be tough. Their expressions would probably be modeled after real actors/models. Plus, they'd probably need active programmers, maintenance, charging.. so there are a lot of hypotheticals here.
