What was your first fandom?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-19 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I think mine was early Nintendo games, particularly Mario and Zelda. I read the shit out of fic at Nintendoland.

Sailor Moon was probably the first fandom I shared with friends IRL, and Harry Potter the first/only one where I actively participated online beyond just leaving reviews on FF.n.

Animorphs was my first actual fandom, and Harry Potter was my first online one.

Labyrinth! Ooh, that Goblin King... I still have a nostalgic fondness for it, tbh.

God, I've been in so many, I don't even know.

Probably some game (though most the games I love don't have massive fandoms, even when they have lots of fans) or anime (Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin and Saiyuki were some of my favorites).

Lord of the Rings was probably the first fandom I was really in. Like, I wasted so much fucking time in that fandom.
nightscale: Starbolt (Marvel: Shatterstar/Rictor)

Dragonball Z I think.

Pern was the first fandom where I had to buy all the stuff and hunted down info and waited for the new books to come out.

LOTR was the first online fandom where I wrote shit and participated in online stuff back when the movies first came out.

Charmed, at least as far as online fandom is concerned.

I've been a lifelong fan of The Simpsons and F.R.I.E.N.D.S., but Charmed, in addition to "playing it on the playground" with friends, is the first fandom that got me into reading fic & it's the first fandom I ever wrote/published fic for. To this day it's the only fandom I've attempted to make a fanvid for (though the fanvid in question is actually a collage because moviemaking/editing is not my forte.)

Yugioh, although I was too young to be allowed on the Internet unsupervised yet so all I did was try to talk about it with friends and fail to learn to play the game.

The first one I actually participated in would probably be Fruits Basket. I still wasn't really allowed to browse the Internet much, but I somehow managed to get myself into a lemon fic mailing list. I was 12.

Saint Seiya!

Digimon was definitely the first one and I geeked out hard with my friends during recess, but Yu-Gi-Oh was the one that I got into when we got internet and I spent a stupid amount of talking to strangers on the internet about it. I wrote so much shitty fic for it too.

Babylon 5. X-Files. Homicide: Life on the Street. Pretty much in that order.

Pirates of the Caribbean -- first online community I joined, fics I really read and enjoyed, wrote for, etc. etc. MY best friend was the only IRL person I fangirled about it with.

Technically, the first fic I read was Yu Yu Hakasho and Inuyasha. But I only had one or two IRL friends that I spoke to about Inuyasha.

Depends. Star Wars in terms of the first thing I was obsessed with. Harry Potter in terms of my first online fandom and the first thing I read fanfic for.

I got into Star Wars and Lois and Clark right about the same time, and I'm not sure which came first.

Huh. Probably InuYasha. It's the first anything that I recall getting involved in the fandom for.

I view it two ways. The first show I got into so much I'd make up stories and self insert etc, and then the first social fandom where I'd meet other people and get involved in the community.

For the first, Dumbo's Flying Circus. I was so young I barely remember it, but I can remember laying in bed imagining stories for the show. I was really into it for some reason. Weird toddler/tiny me.

For the second, probably X-Men comics. That was my first real involvement with fandom online and where I learned the term 'fanfiction' for what I'd been doing all along. :)

I found fandom through music. I was fannish but only really wanted to make some friends I could talk about music stuff with. Some of them were into actual fandom stuff though. I wasn't really, but I didn't have a problem with what they talked to me about. Idk how I even got interested. I think I liked some of the art but shipping didn't interest me a lot. I started reading some meta and some alternate ending fic for books.

It probably wouldn't have reeled me in, but fandom is free and the content is pretty much unlimited.
