Probably transphobic as fuck, but asking anyway

Don't read if that summary sounds like something you would not like to read.

Last chance, man.

Do you consider trans people who have transitioned to be fully that gender?

Yes and I also consider people who haven't transitioned to be fully that gender.

OP of above. I think it's obvious that I do. I also thing if they choose not to transition, then they are still fully that gender if they are comfortable not having the body to go with it. They might have some more explaining to do, but if that's the worst thing in their life I'd call it a win.

Yes. Gender =/= sex.

Define "fully"?

I mean, I think obviously it will change your experience and perception if you spent years being raised/socialized/treated as the gender you were perceived as.

But, de facto I will treat a transitioned trans woman as a regular woman, and a trans man as a regular man.

In terms of relationships, I would worry about sexual compatibility.

Outside of relationship, it's not something I spend a huge amount of time fretting about. Like, it's not my hobby to gt into the details of other people's personal lives so much.

I mean if you introduce yourself to me as Mary, you're Mary, even if you were John the first 22 years of your life.

...Yes? I mean, I consider myself fully male even though I haven't begun transition yet, so I don't see why that would be any different for other people regardless of their transition status.

But at the same time, I've had experiences that a cisgender male wouldn't be able to experience, and I do think it gives me a unique perspective over a cisgender male entirely because their upbringing didn't allow them to have them.

Yeah, definitely. Though I'll probably always have some lingering confusion about the idea of transgenderism in general? At least, in the sense that I don't personally ever consider gender to be important/relevant to the way I live my life, so I can't relate at all.

Before I answer that question, I have to ask one of my own. When you say "gender" do you actually mean gender, or do you mean sex? I know a lot of people use them interchangeably, but they're really not the same thing, especially not in this context.

Now, to give you an answer: Assuming that when you say gender you actually mean gender, then yes. I would consider all trans people to be the gender they say they are, regardless of whether they have transitioned.

If when you say gender what you mean is sex, then... I'm not sure, to be honest. Genetically, their chromosomes would stay the same; there's no way to change that. But do chromosomes really matter that much? If someone's been taking female hormones for years and has female genitals but their chromosomes are XY, would you say their sex is still male? I'm not sure. It's a weird question, and I don't think I'm knowledgeable enough to give a proper answer to it.

rationally, yes. emotionally, not always, but that's mostly online.

that said, I have been pretty good at noticing if someone is trans even before they came out of the closet to me in real life.

if you can what the fuck does gender means, i might have an answer

it's just an amalgamation of sex stereotypes to me

Re: Probably transphobic as fuck, but asking anyway

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
No, since I consider gender to partially depend on physiology. Until people can change their chromosomes, gametes and sexual organs completely, they can't in my opinion be fully that gender. Almost, but not fully.

Re: Probably transphobic as fuck, but asking anyway

To me, "gender" doesn't really mean anything when it's divided from sex unless someone makes it mean something in their own identity. I'm not trans, but I don't really think of my gender when I try to think of who I am. I mean, of course society has treated me a certain way and that's affected who I am, but it's not really a thing for me otherwise. I don't think being a woman, or a man, is in any way definable once you strip it away from the genitals, but if someone does incorporate that into their active identity, then sure, that's what they are. I just personally don't find it definable.
