She is the audience analogue. Readers can put themselves in her shoes. I hate it but what are you going to do?

Do people actually relate to her, though? I mean, what positive attributes does she actually have? I wouldn't want ot relate to her.

No idea. I can't stand Darcy since the second movie. I guess because she is not super smart aND doesn't have super powers?

I'm guessing it's because she's the normal everyday person allowed into the world of superheroes and superspies, plus she's supposed to be witty and sarcastic, which people like to be these days.

She doesn't seem very normal to me. Or witty for that matter. She's the kind of person that in real life I can't stand. Even though Jane is super smart, I still think she's more relative than Darcy. But I guess other people must see something in Darcy I don't.

I'm sort of the same. Jane could definitely outsmart me in in the science, but she seems more like a person I could have a pleasant conversation with.

Depends, if your fandom doesn't have a suitable self insert character like Darcy, they probably have a lot of OCs.
