I just don't get her popularity. I found her really obnoxious and annoying and useless, and her parts were the worst in both Thor movies.

I like her fine in the actual movies but I never got fandom's huge love for her(can say the same for Coulson too tbh), but quirky smart-mouth characters can often end up being faves even if they don't always resonate with me(see: Teen Wolf and Stiles, I don't mind the guy but I much prefer Derek and Scott over him).

Though it does make me sad that is there's like no Jane/Darcy, which is the only Darcy pairing I'm interested in. Sod's law really.

It's because her fans are sick of the fucking ship wars and are very encouraging to everyone. You won't find the assholery like in the first secret in that part of fandom.

She's basically the ultimate self insert I think. B this point she's basically used as an OC. I guess I could understand it - I just have very little in common with her, so it wouldn't really work for me.

I specifically filter "Darcy Lewis" out of my searches when I'm looking for fic to read. She's basically a reader-insert at this point, and I can only take so many "they stole my iPod" jokes.

I will never understand some peoples obsession with minor characters, rare pairs, and crack ship. For me a character or ship has to have a bit more substance other than just existing.

To be fair I only watched the first Thor movie, and I was never involved in this fandom. I just checked ao3 and she has twice the amount of fics that Jane has. Huh.

I sort of understand the Darcy/Loki pairing, since the actors actually used to bang and they both seem nice.

She's a white chick who's roughly college-age, pretty in a cute non-intimidating way, who's shown to be funny and clever (whether or not you personally find her such is irrelevant, she's meant to be), who enjoys memes and facebook and has a relatively normal life outside of crazy Thor Incidents, who gets to rub shoulders with all the hot guys of the MCU.

She's basically the ultimate audience insert. I can't think of any other canon that has such a perfect one.

I feel like it started out as a pair the spares thing. Darcy and Loki were paired a lot. And she and RDJ played father and daughter in Charlie Bartlett, which led to Darcy as Tony's daughter fics.
