I don't know who these guys are, but your decision seems more than fair.

Did they do or say something about it in particular? The app looks pretty recent, so they could have an Android version in the works. I'd think it'd be bad business if they didn't, but I don't really keep up with them, so I don't know if they've specifically said they're not going to do it or something.

(These are YouTubers Rhett and Link for those wondering btw.)

They've said nothing about it! They completely ignore the Android user portion of their fanbase, while continuing to plug the app for anyone with an iphone.

What happened was, they said one day "We're making an app!"

Then one day they said "Get ready! App coming in 5, 4, 3, 2..."

Then the day of launch arrived and they said "Download on iTunes."

Android users were crushed, and remained so, and have continuously asked since then "When can we play? Can we get some hope? Can you tell us ANYTHING" and they have been 100% ignored while the app continues to be promoted occasionally on the show and frequently on social media.

A major announcement was announced recently, which prompted the secret. And that announcement was ... that you can now earn points in game, to buy trivia packs to add on to the game.

Android users: But when do we get to play?
Rhett and Link: *crickets*

To add, at the original time of the launch, they said "Download on iTunes, Android coming soon." And they said that a couple more times. And then they never said the word "Android" again.

Oh I see. I can understand that, I'd be pretty upset too if I was an Android user and they hyped it up like that. Maybe they're trying to keep it a surprise, or something went wrong with the Android release? :/ If I were in your position, I would probably cling to that hope, since it has happened that a programme I wanted on Mac was announced that there would be a release, and then it was cancelled, and then it was suddenly released out of the blue. But I think it's still kind of ... lacking in tact to hype an app release and do that.

I understand a lot of people are upset that it wasn't released simultaneously, and they have reason to be. I wouldn't mind a long wait if they would just SAY something about it, throw a bone, at least acknowledge that the problem exists. Any time they put something about the app on Twitter, the post is flooded with Android comments that go unanswered. It's so, so shitty.

Oh, god. I'm fine with most of the merch, but Trivy is just an exercise in narcissism.

Not too much more than Rhett's beard oil.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Beard oil at least has a real purpose. Trivy is just "Show the world how well you know us, your favorite Youtubers!"

Some people are into that, even unbearded folk.

How these guys are popular is an enduring mystery.

They're funny and entertaining. How is anything popular?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I admit to loving all the "Will it ___?" and taste game episodes, but I have no idea why.

+1

Those videos are literally the only reason why I eventually subscribed. For a while I kept seeing their videos in my suggestions and would watch those, and then watch more, and one day I figured I'd be better off subscribing.

Their other content I'm kind of "meh" about.

They're fun to watch for what crazy shit they try to add to the feature dish.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I wonder the same thing. They don't seem very special.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
funny, charming, creative, interesting people?

[personal profile] dethtoll 2015-12-31 07:40 am (UTC)(link)
No no, we're talking about Rhett and Link.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
tbh I don't know why they're SO huge, but I personally like them because they're almost an irl version of a lot of narrative pairing/friendship tropes that I really like.

Rhett's the more jock-ish big blond with a beard. He's almost like if Thor were a middle-class american family man. And Link is the less mainstream, more sarcastically funny guy. So together you have this bromance/brotherhood dynamic of two guys who are really different in a lot of ways, but still besties because they know each other so well.

Plus, while I don't laugh out loud at every episode, nor do I bother to tune in every day or check out their non-GMM stuff, i really enjoy the humor in a lot of the episodes. It's goofy and fun, whereas most of the other comedy I consume tends to be fairly critical or a bit harsher. It's just really refreshing to watch something that's literally light-hearted family fun and that's all. It's like teletubbies for adults, almost.

It's just something about them that irritates me to look at and listen to. Mental sandpaper, basically.

And I've heard the "wholesome fun" thing before and it's like, I believe that's the intent but the whole thing comes off as just plain cringey.

JFC, Dethtoll, just because you don't like something doesn't mean no one possibly can. :(

No shit?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-31 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's always baffling to me when an app will be on iOS exclusively, because almost 80% of smartphones use Android.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-01 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
IPhone apps generate more revenue, and not just a little, by an order of multiples. Your average iPhone user has already spent more for their brand than a rival phone model, so they've already been conditioned to spend more in general. That's why apps tend to release first on iPhone and only on Android as an afterthought, even though most phones use Android.

If an app is purely for the fans, to reach the most people it should release on Android. If it's for the revenue, which most are, it should come out on iPhone with in app purchases. Unless the app is a mega hit, it will perhaps never make it to Android. Porting iPhone apps to Android is surprisingly expensive. There has to be the predicted revenue stream to make it worthwhile, so a lot don't bother.
